As per title, currently with BT with SH2, Halo 3+ and a couple of black complete wifi discs.

Am I correct in thinking that the BT wifi discs will not work with the new EE router - will be on FTTP

Long story short need at least 1 disc as ONT in hallway and I run a small switch from a disc in living room for NAS, PS5 etc for wired connectivity. So debating whether to add the £10 a month (heard you can get more than one and get the 4G back up a la Halo) or just buy an EE disc from the shop

Or go the full hog and invest in the Google Wifi Pro and plug one into the ONT and forgo the EE router?

@AGxM You’ll need the EE disk. And the disk to purchase outright is £80 you’ll find these on eBay also so you could save more. The EE deal for these with your broadband package is £10 per month for the duration of that contract ( very costly) but at with this you’ll get a replacement should there be an issue and thats great if your towards the end of that contract. I use a disk and I’ve got to say I’ve not yet experienced any issues.

You can have 3 disks and the backup router is via a mobile 4G router. So you can even take this out with you. You’ll get 2Gb of data on it each month and if your internet should go down EE will put 250Gb on it for you. You can even top it up yourself to use. I’ve got one with my BB package and don’t really use it.

I couldn’t agree more I ‘upgraded’ to EE from BT as told the BT brand was changing and I would get 700mb compared with the 100mb I was getting. This maybe true BUT the Wi-Fi signal is shocking. With my bt box with 3 extender disks to had a trouble free experience swapped to EE and the Wi-Fi drops , is slow and unreliable. Speak to EE and they say the kit is better and it’s the number of items I have connected. Rubbish. I have the same number of items connected the only thing that has changed is the EE equipment. I now have problems with buffering watching Netflix on my Sky box and that is wired directly to the router. It has to be the equipment.

Hi, just because there's a lot of conflicting information about this I'm just going to share what I've been able to test and check. The BT Smarthub 2 and the EE Smart Hub (2023) are basically identical both are Wi-Fi 5 and the Complete Wifi Discs and Smart Wi-Fi 'Devices' will work with them interchangeably. The newer EE Smart Hub plus (with Wi-Fi 6) is only compatible with the Smart Wifi Plus 'Devices' as they connect with Wi-Fi 6.

If you're moving from BT to EE and don't upgrade to a package where Wi-Fi 6 is needed for the speed you can get then in most cases they wouldn't send out a new hub at all, the BT smarthub 2 and EE smarthub (2023) are both FTTP compatible with a quick settings change. But keep in mind if you are moving from a package with 'complete wifi' to a package that doesn't have 'smart wifi' they will probably ask you to send back the discs you have depending on when you took out your contract.

-Jade
