Modem + router recomendation

Hello

I would like to get rid of my EE router as it keeps restarting around 8 times per day randomly. This is the second one that does that and I want to switch to a separate modem and router setup.

Does anyone know if this is possible with EE? If yes, can anyone recommend me a reliable modem that is not too expensive?

It's possible. In Home Broadband settings you'll find almost everything you need to set up your own router. What's missing for Fibre is:

VLAN ID = 101

ASUS, Netgear & TP-Link routers are well thought of. If you have FTTC BB a VDSL modem/router is required.

How do I know if I have FTTC?

Also can you explain to me the importance of VLAN ID = 101 like I am a 5 years old and why does it matters if it’s missing?

Which EE BB package do you have?

Look for a VLAN ID field in your modem settings. If you don't get it right your BB won't work.
