EE won't supply you a VDSL2 modem, only a modem router that annoyingly cannot be used in modem only mode as said above.... assuming you'll be ordering FTTC (fibre to the cabinet) then you'll need to source your own VDSL modem, something like the Draytek 166 modem which I think covers what you need.. or some other VDSL modem router that can be used as a modem only mode.

Of course EE may offer you ADSL and FTTC (and FTTP) options so it does really depend on which service you'll be buying as to the most suitable modem you should get.

Line rental, own router with Fibre Plus?

I'm thinking of moving from Virgin cable to EE Fibre Plus and just wanted to check whether I've got this right:

1. Right now, I don't have a phone line so I assume I need to pay EE for the installation. Does the monthly cost include the cost of the line rental after that (for some reason I can't see anything about this on the website)?

2. I'm currently using an EdgeRouter X plugged into the Virgin box in "router mode". I have an old TPlink TD-8616 ADSL2+ modem. Can I therefore plug that into the phone socket EE will install, give it my EE login details, and then plug the ERX into that without changing any settings?

@TheBigD Hi and welcome to the EE forum.

Answers to your qhestions.

1. The EE prices include line rental, and depending on the service you go for if you don't need telephone services you may be able to save a couple of quid by going for Broadband without phone.

2. It sounds like you want faster speeds than your old ADSL router can cope with, so you will not be able to use it. Alas the EE supplied routers do not work in modem only mode.

If your router can be set up with PPOE mode and can set VLAN to 101 and you get your EE Broadband Username and password along with a suitable modem you should be fine.

What services are available at your address? Use the address checker and post the results, minus your address if you want some help. The EE checker can also be used, but is a bit basic with much less info. https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL

Order EE Fibre Plus Without Landline & you'll not be given a landline no. nor have any landline services, thereby saving about £2 pm on voice services.

Faster speeds or not, EE Fibre Plus uses VDSL2 technology & so your old ADSL2+ modem will not work on it. Therefore you will either need to use the EE supplied modem/router or get a VDSL2 modem in its place.

On Q1 - Oh OK! That's certainly not clear from the website. I don't need a phone service so will look out for that option then. Glad I asked!

On Q2 - also glad I asked! I can can get a VDSL2 modem then in that case. The ERX router does do PPPOE but it's not got a modem inside it.
