EE Flashing Blue Light

Good Evening,

I have managed to set up my EE SH as an AP (DHCP, Firewall etc disabled) but despite everything working both wired and wireless I have a constant flashing Blue light on my SH. Is there any way to comletely disable this light, I've already disabled in the SH setting but by the looks of thing the BB status overrides that setting.

If anyone could shed any light on this please let me know.

An AP to what?

Did you turn the WAN Port to ON?

Thank you for the quick reply.

I am connected to a Netgear R7800 running OpenWRT.

I didn't have any luck using the WAN at all, WAN is off but I am connected to LAN4 on the SH as well as LAN on my R7800 (as the WAN on the R7800 is used to connect to a DM200 (modem only)

I can live with the flashing but if there is a way to disable it would be greatly appreciated. The SH will only be used intermittently when I am required to work from home so its not the end of the workd. Just thought it could make sense to ask at least.

Yes, LAN 4 on the SH as well WAN Port = ON on the Advanced Settings > BB > Net page. Otherwise it thinks the DSL is the WAN & flashes Cyan because it sees no BB on it.

Just given that a shot now, When I try to connect I'm hit with a solid red light and no connectivity with WAN on. If i connect to one of the other LAN ports I get the flashing blue light but the connectivity comes back.

I'm absolutely stumped.

Using the WAN port isn't going to work unless you're connecting direct to an ONT or dedicated xDSL modem. If you're wanting to use the EE hub solely as an access point, LAN <> LAN, with DHCP disabled, then I think you're out of luck.

The EE router will probably have an option to disable the LED, but any 'alarm' status is likely to override this i.e. you can turn the LED off, but if the hub thinks it has no WAN connection then it's probably going to illuminate/annoy you anyway.

In summary: duct tape the light, or put up with it 😉

@bobpullen : I didn't realise that with the EE Smart Thingamabobs the WAN had to be an actual modem only. I'm sure when I connect a main BrightBox's LAN to another routing (not just AP) BrightBox's WAN it works fine. Or does it?

@XRaySpeX - I've zero personal experience with the BrightBoxes, so can't really say for sure; it would strike me as odd. Fairly certain based on what @BluntEXE is saying that they're stuck with the lights on the SH though ☹️

@XRaySpeX - I could be misinterpreting what you're saying. This is what I had in my head: -

Brightbox 1 (WAN) > Brightbox 2 (LAN) > Internet

Not unheard of for devices to support this sort of chain, but for a PPPoE-configured ISP device, I wouldn't typically expect it to work unless 'Brightbox 2' is operating in bridge mode.

That's not to say it doesn't though. I've never had the opportunity to play around with one.
