Well, I am fed up with EE by the fact that although they have a VPN on their router you are not able to use it or even have any information for it.

I have a VPN on my desktop computer but as a result of energy prices I disconnect the lot, except for WiFi.

I am investigating to ditch the EE router and by a new compatible VPN router and installed the VPN in it.

The question is has anyone done this or will I be wasting my money as EE will still keep blocking my IP address.

Any help greatly appreciated.

The EE SH does not have a VPN on it nor can 1 be installed on it. It just has 1 or 2 settings that assists a VPN running on 1 of your devices like a PC.

The ASUS RT-AC86U is a pure router & does not contain a modem. It cannot replace the EE SH w/out adding a free-standing modem. To just replace the EE SH you should be looking at the ASUS DSL- range.

Not sure the Asus DSL routers support VPN like the RT ones. In which case you would also need a modem.

However it is not clear what the issue is, and why you think EE are blocking your IP?

A VPN on the router is going to slow down the performance of the router and the end to end connection speed, so you need to understand what it is you are trying to solve, and be aware of the consequences.

As you are able to guess by the above replies, I don't know much about VPN and modems for that matter. I thought by buying a new router and installng a VPN in it would sort my problem out!

I will have a look at the Asus DSL range then.

On the EE router there is a page "VPN" with several settings, hence I thought this was for a VPN installation. Obviuosly, this is not the case.

I have a satellite receiver and everytime that there is a football match my iptv is blocked even if I don't watch any stupid football, anyway. I am told if I installed a VPN on the router, this will solved the problem????

Thank you for your replies but I think that I am even more confused now.

I'm guessing there's a question around the legitimacy of the IPTV solution in use. If the network destinations it uses are shared with those that stream unauthorised big game football content, then it stands to reason that they will be the target of blocks when the games are on.

OP would have to confirm, but I'm guessing the presence of a satellite receiver has no bearing on the problem here. When there are big games broadcast on satellite TV (or elsewhere for that matter), illicit IPTV streams (that will be streaming the same games, at the same time) will be targeted for blocking.

If the source of those streams is common with other non-sport content, then that blocking net is likely to catch some fish it's not looking for 😉
