Ee sky package

Hi all. I’m moving from Sky Q (tv and broadband) to EE broadband with the complete Sky package in a couple of weeks.

Has anyone else done this and is it worthwhile? I’m getting exactly the same Sky channels I currently get but on EE with EE/BT broadband. Works out cheaper than Sky.

I’ve been told EE uses BT broadband. Also been told that the Home Screen will be different to that of Sky Q. Does anyone have a screenshot of what the new Home Screen will look like? And am I right in saying I only need one box and I can still use other TV’s by signing in to them via the actual TV? I’ve gone for 3 boosters as I have a wide house and Sky didn’t work without the extra boosters.

Any insight or help with the above would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

@Mustrum : You're way out-of-date. EE discontinued EE TV a year or 2 back. The OP is interested in Sky TV & also the usual connecting Smart TVs to the EE router.

Which 1 box are you thinking of? You will certainly have an EE router & I understand from your OP that you will be bringing a Sky TV box with you.

I think the OP may have missed a trick though if they are still getting their TV channels from Sky. Their retentions team are normally quite aggressive in their pricing when people say they are leaving!

Also not sure why the home page would change with a different broadband provider. Or do Sky do a Glass package of internet only channels using your own TV's? Or is it a new box?

So many questions!

@JH1000 EE offer broadband with an Apple TV and with that you can subscribe to NOW TV, you download the Now TV app on to the Apple TV and pay the subscription charge for what package you choose to have.
With Now TV you get 4 different subscriptions each with their own costs. See HERE Think of it as a Netflix type subscription service.

you don’t get Sky as such where you pay one fee for the month.

To have more than one TV being able to watch will require the Now TV app to be installed on a smart TV or other media streaming box that’s connected to that TV.

You do get access to BT sports because of having the Apple TV with your broadband contract.

or are you saying you are having your broadband through EE but your TV is going to still be via Sky ?

Thanks all for your replies so far.

To clear up some of the questions….

My Sky bill is normally £100 a month (including Netflix and all the main packages like sport and movies, multi room etc). My contact ends this month and the new bill would’ve been £145! I did barter with them as I always do but they said the absolute best they can do is £130.

Added to this, their broadband has been really bad where I live and I’m fed up with my wifi not working on my phone and other sky Q boxes.

When I called EE it was only to change the broadband and then they told me that they provide this whole Sky package for £100 including broadband and 3 boosters. So I went with it. I will be sending all my sky boxes back to sky. I’ve been told it’s £75 for the whole EE tv package and £27 for EE broadband, totalling £102, so I’m hoping it’s as straight forward as it sounds and not split up into little costs here and there as you’ve mentioned. 🤞

I already have a contract with EE on my mobile phone and within that contract, I already get Apple TV and BT sports so I’m not overly fussed about them, though I guess it will be cool not having to use my phone to transfer it to the tv as I currently do.

I was hoping the Home Screen would be the same as it is on Sky Q but that’s just me being lazy as it’s easy to use. I have no idea how EE/BT are able to offer this whole Sky package as I thought Sky owned all their channels, but I’ll be saving some money and hopefully getting a better broadband service.

Last question, can anyone that may have this confirm if you still get all the options to watch box sets and catch up tv etc like you currently do with the movie & entertainment package on Sky.

Thanks, that would seem to clarify things but I'm just puzzled as to just what product EE is providing you with for £75 pm as "the whole EE TV package" considering you already have Apple TV and BT Sport from them.

I beleive @Chappy_4412 and includes is correct. Looking at the new BT TV offering the top package is £75all channel packs.

@JH1000 going back to your original post - EE/BT use the same lines and equipment in the cabinet as Sky, so your broadband speeds should be the same. Have you checked the BTW DSL Checker to see what speeds are available to you? https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL

As for the Wi-Fi performance, much will depend on the structure of your property, thick stone walls, or modern foil lined walls will stop any Wi-Fi, will an extra booster make a difference?

For £75.99 BT is including 80 Meg Fibre. So why is EE charging £27 on top for BB?

By applying at your 1st link. It does not seem to lead to your 2nd link. The 1st link gives VIP TV + Fibre 2 for £109 which is a bit dearer than EE is offering.

I’m a little disappointed that EE/BT and Sky use the same broadband lines, this was the main reason I changed. EE never mentioned this, but they wouldn’t I guess.

Yep, to clarify, I have gone with the VIP package. They have the stay safe 26 mbts promise and a 32 mbps average apparently. There is no fibre broadband in my area at the moment but will do a free upgrade when/if it comes in.

My changeover day is 22nd December. EE liaise with Sky to buy out/take over my contract and they automatically start when Sky ends. I’m hoping it goes smoothly because last thing I need is to have no tv over Xmas!

It sounds like I’m not the only one who hadn’t realised EE do this package. I was hoping to get some advice from someone else who has bought this package as I fear the worst for some reason. I’m sure it’ll be ok though.

EE don't! You've bought a BT package based on their lowest 40-Meg capped fibre BB called "Fibre Essential" together with their BT TV VIP offering.

For others' experience and views on these you'd be better off perusing the BT Community.

@JH1000 There is a limited number of ways to get BB to a home. The main two ways are Virgin media ( they have their own lines underground and is only used by Virgin media ) and via your phone line that’s connected to your home. Sky use these along with just about every other internet provider including BT,EE These lines are looked after by open reach with is a company of BT.

Weird. They didn’t explain it like that at all. They just said they use the BT broadband but EE supply everything else.

So it looks like the only way I’m going to get faster broadband is with Virgin fibre (We do actually have a virgin line connected to the house from when the in-laws lived here).

I’ll have a look at the BT forums as you’ve suggested. Thanks.

@JH1000 from what you have said, EE have only signed you up to BT Broadband and TV, they won't be doing anything else.

By BT taking over your broadband it will result in your Sky phone and broadband being cancelled - the system does not allow two providers using the same line. However, you will need to cancel your Sky TV package, as far as I know there is no link between BT TV and Sky TV as there is with phone/broadband providers.

Depending on where you live there may be other vendors installing fibre in your area. You can check the Openreach site to see if your area is in their plans or keep an eye out in the local press or leaflets for other suppliers. https://www.openreach.com/fibre-broadband
