Alternative Router/Modem Recommendations for FULL Fibre

Our new 1gbps Full Fibre line was installed this morning by openreach and our old 60mbps line disconnected...

However, no sign of our new EE router/modem and the SmartHub doesn't work.

We have a large house and wifi signal has always been an issue at the far end, so I've been wanting to install a new router for some time.

I'd like something that replaces the need for any EE hardware but I'm unsure what I need.

Can anyone recommend to me a router that I will need to get up and running so that I don't need to wait for the EE hardware.

I've been looking at this but unsure if it would be compatible. Many thanks for any help!

You don't need a modem router. The ONT is the modem.

Practically any router only will do.

In Currys you'd be looking more like TP-LINK Archer AX73 WiFi Cable & Fibre Router - AX 5400, Dual-band

That's great advice cheers, I'd thought I would need a modem/router combo as I'm replacing the EE Hub, so to confirm, just plug in and setup the new router straight into the openreach box and it will be good to go?

Yes, plug the router by Ethernet into the ONT.

You should find that routers with WiFi 6 (802.11ax) will have a stronger WiFi signal.

EE only supplies modem routers for all its Home BB connections, even those not needing the modem, to kill many birds with 1 stone.

As a quick follow up, is there a setup guide / list of settings I'll need when setting up the router?

It has been over 15 years since I managed my own home network 😄

I'm guessing I'll need to reach out to EE to get some usernames/passwords?

In Home Broadband settings you'll find everything you need to set up your own router.

You should be able to read out your BB Username/pwd from your EE router.

@flashjunkie you should be able to use the smart hub by changing one of the Lan Ports to WAN if it is not already set up that way.

You should also get your PPOE password if you do go ahead with a new router, and the Help pages on here can show houw to derive the password.
