Hi,

So I've recently joined the ee broadband service and so far the experience is not so pleasant, my plan have a gurantee of 8mb/s however it never been close to half of what it stated and it's been running at it's minimum speed since my boardband went live. I've tried to tackle the problem myself and I've came to a conclusion of it's the faulty router I've got. I've asked for a replacement of my router and yet there's no luck as the speed is just about the same as it was before. I'm wondering if there's a speed cap to the router that ee is providing or it's just me having insane bad luck of having to faulty routers. I've tried through wireless, connected with LAN cables or even a different desktop and it's still the same problem. I've attached some photos to the post and hope that someone could help me. It's not running slow. The BB has a connection speed of over 22 Meg., nearly the top of the BB type you are on, ADSL2+.

Thanks for the quick reply, but why is my download speed not reflecting the actual speed? It’s not just steam that’s having the problem. I’ve tried web browser and such but it’s still peaking at 2Mb/s instead of what’s showing in the internet speed test.

You have fallen into the ago-old trap of mixing up Bytes (upper case) with bits (lower case). Net speeds are conventionally measured in bits / sec (bps). When speedtests or device d/load speeds show speeds in B/s (not b/s) you need to multiply by 8. So wherever you see 2MB/s, say, you need to read it as 16Mb/s. So, you see, you are getting reasonable expected speeds from your BB line.
