Router dropping off

Hi all, my EE router has had a mind of its own this weekend. Engineer came today and mentioned having a back up router. Lost work and pay as a result, so need something reliable as a back up. Thoughts anyone?

@BabsGH If your router has a fault and it’s the EE supplied router just call customer services and request a replacement router as yours is faulty. The engineer has practically confirm this with saying have a backup router.

Router is fine, everything tested all okay, apparently we are on the furthest point for fibre broadband. He just mentioned having back up on 4g, so that if the router drops off we’ll have a back up.

It is an excellent suggestion to have a back-up router or even, better still, to be using a generic, non-ISP, router all the time.

Which EE router do you have? To replace your EE router you need to find a like-for-like or better router.

@BabsGH I suspect the engineer was suggesting more than a replacement router.

BT's Halo system automatically provides service if your line goes down. https://www.bt.com/exp/halo

I suspect EE will provide a similar service, but no timeframe. But for a manual solution you could consider a 5G or 4G router https://shop.ee.co.uk/broadband/5g-and-4g-routers

And if service is critical you could look to see if there are alternative suppliers such as Virgin Media or FTTP suppliers.

If that's named the EE Smart Router, you will need any G.Fast/VDSL/ADSL modem router to replace it, such as the ASUS DSL-AC88U . There aren't many to choose from.

@Mustrum EE do offer this you get a 4GEE mobile router. I got one with my smart router it gets allocated 2Gb per month but if my BB goes down EE will put 250Gb on it per month until my BB is fixed. I can also top this up via PAYG if I want so I can take it out and about and use more than the allowance of 2Gb.

@Mustrum I’ll have to search for it, I got my BB deal by calling customer services as I was up for renewal and I got offered it.
