Connecting memory device to USB port on smart router

I have connected a Samsung memory device to my smart router. The smart router manager shows status as 'connected' but I am unable to work out how to access the files on the device. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Kind regards, bryan R

If Win, have you enabled SMB 1.0 File Sharing Support in Program Features?

In File Mgr click on Networks / Computer / SmartRouter to see the USB attached drive. See below but pretend "BrightBox2" is "SmartRouter":

Thank you for your thoughts. I've never connected anything else to the USB port but, I am able to access files on the devices connected on Ethernet and Wireless

Hi @bryanR

It's likely the port doesn't deliver enough power for the HDD to run. The Samsung M3 is not a SSD drive.

one small surprise, mine is showing BT HomeHub6DX😀 but, like your image, does not show any files.

Yes, just click on the router's Computer icon and you'll see the drive and its files below it. You might be asked for a password.

Thank you for the update. Perhaps I am getting something wrong.

When I click on the router icon it takes me through to the Smart Router Manager page

Then you must be clicking on the router's icon in the Network Infrastructure section, not the Computer section.

many thanks. Yes I was clicking on the router icon as there wasn't anything in the computer section.

new folder has now appeared under router icon showing usb and contents

Provided you have configured smb to run on your PC, open File Explorer and type in the address bar:-
\\192.168.1.254
(or the IP Address of your EE Smart Router)
The USB device should be shown in the resulting window, typically usb0 or usb1.
You can then create a Desktop shortcut or map a network connection to it or, if you just want to access it by the address bar
\\192.168.1.254 \usb0
or
\\192.168.1.254 \usb1

Using my method in the File Explorer address bar, as in my first comment, is correct. However, if I'm also correct in what you are doing is using Internet Explorer or another Internet App address bar instead?

Was my solution of any use? Did you manage to connect to the USB drive and set a permanent connection?

Hi,
Am on Mac OS 13.5.2 and am trying to set up an external USB hard drive on the EE Smart Router so that the drive is visible across the network and automatically mounted for back ups on 2 macs.
- I have previously formatted the drive to APFS - it is empty.
- I can see the drive in the as 'connected' when I log in to the Smart Router Manager via a browser
- My mac does not find the router via Go/Connect to server
- Disk Utility cannot see it either.
- I managed to connect as Guest to the router earlier via Go/Connect to server. That no longer works.

Does this situation have to do with permissions and sharing? File sharing is on (on the mac)? Any sugesstions would be much appreciated!
