Welcome to EE's Home Broadband Forum.

If you would like help with your BB speed or connection issues, please would you carry out the following steps for starters, which will enable us to diagnose the problem and advise you further. Do not restart your router to do these tests:

1. Post your full router stats:

For a BrightBox: login and go to Advanced Settings > System > DSL Status. Also post 'System Uptime' from top of System Log page.

For a SmartHub: login and go to Advanced Settings > Technical Log > Information. Obscure your names & any numbers in the BB Username & also the SSIDs.

Full router stats are key to any speed & connection issues.

2. Try a wired speedtest, using an Ethernet cable supplied with the router, here http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html . Click on the "Results Page" button at the bottom of the graph you first see and then copy to here just the "Link to this result:" link that you see below the next main graph.

3. What does BT Wholesale Broadband Availability Checker estimate for your phone number? Post just the whole table and the line above it, blanking out your phone number. If it doesn't recognise your phone number or you don't have one, use the Address Checker, not the Postcode Checker.

According to my contact, boradband download speed should be more than 150mb. But now it's just about 70mb. Could i call for maintenance?

That wasn't the speedtest I requested & doesn't help me much.

Locate the hidden test socket that is revealed when you remove the bottom half of the split faceplate (2 screws or press tabs) of your master socket. Only do this if you have a split faceplate. Do you have any extension sockets in the home even if unused? Are there any wires connected to back of faceplate of master socket?

Try the BT Quiet Line Test (QLT), dial 17070 Opt 2, preferably with a corded phone, in the test socket with the router disconnected. If there is any noise, report it to your landline provider as a voice fault (don't mention Broadband). Often sorting out voice faults will fix the Broadband as well.

Reboot the router & plug it into the test socket. Post the full router stats & System Uptime when plugged into test socket.

Is the issue any better?

@Chriskcc Whilst there is much people on the forum can do to help, we rely on the detail in the questions asked for. That in turn requires a degree of technical ability, although we do hope to help provide that information, from people with issues.

Given the limited information you have provided so far, I would recommend giving the Broadband Support Team a call.

The BTW DSL Checker suggests you should get higher speeds, although as you have not shown or used your phone number it is only an estimate. You would have been given estimates and Minimum Guaranteed speeds (MGS) when you signed up - are you below those?

Your router speeds show you are getting less than 1/2 what you should be expecting. on the DSL checker, but we do not know your MGS.

But are you plugged into a filtered master socket then test socket? If so, I would call the Broadband Support Team - if not you know what to do next.

For anyone reading this, just thought I'd comment.

Some routers broadcast 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz with the same SSID. Your device may select 2.4 as the strongest signal. If it does then 70meg is going to be your top speed.

Macs for eg have an issue forcing them to use 5Ghz. The Plusnet & BT hub 2 removed the ability to name the 5Ghz as a different SSID so I have to turn 2.4 off, ensure my Mac connects to 5Ghz then turn it back on.

I can then get the full 150meg speed. We have to leave 2.4 on as doorbell cams etc use it. BT screwed up removing the ability to have two SSID's.

This may be what was happening to the OP in this post and his device may have been connecting to 2.4Ghz and therefore only 70meg max speeds.

It's his sync speeds at the router that are far below what is expected, even before it touches the WiFi. He is getting 77 Meg sync speed when it should be between 172 to 282 Meg. His WiFi speed is consistent with his sync speed & therefore is not an issue.
