topic Regrade to 1.6gbps in Broadband & Landline

Hello all,

I am getting rather frustrated, I want to regrade/upgrade to 1.6gbps (to be clear, I am aware of the current process and how it needs to be done, despite this being an issue for as long as EE has offered 1.6gbps and it still has not been streamlined)

Admittedly I am on the "top package" for 900mbps, at a current contracted rate of £54 a month. I phoned today and asked to regrade stating that I'm aware it would have to be a new account takeover, the advisor went on a silent hold for a bit and then came back and said he spoke to his manager and that I would still need to pay early termination fees? And even after I asked can they be waived, he was reluctant to initiate a new account takeover.

I'm aware 1.6gbps is being offered for less than I'm paying right now, probably why they don't want to do it, but the point is I want to stay as a customer, and get a higher speed, heck I'm even happy to pay the same amount I am now!

Why the hell is it so hard to UPGRADE a service (yes I know, I know they have to go through a different channel)

Anyways, I guess I'm asking, is there anyway to get this done other than biting the bullet and paying the fees and going to a different provider?

@dazzerj24 Were you invited by EE to renew your package per chance as you mention having to do the ETF for your FF900 currently. Don't think EE are reluctant to do it, the old FF900 has to be ceased, and that would incur the ETF, new package does not start until the estimated 14-21 day's later and the ONT may require to be swapped out and possible new hardware delivered to you at the same time as a no matter what you have old back/new supplied.

You would need to go look if other ISP's are supplying for instance like sky, and they will also pay towards you exit fee think they are at the £200 mark currently. And sky are at £38 currently for the FF1.6Gb/s also. With for instance like sky, if you happen to be in a City Fibre area then that is the preferred for them so a complete new FF installation.

I'm near mid contract currently, it doesn't run out until February 2028. Thinking back to the call. I think the advisor was trying to give me the option to go ahead, but didn't want me to say yes and be with out service. Because as you said, our ONT box would need to be swapped, and our current Smart Hub 7 Pro sent back in place of a new one.

By the sounds of it, he was saving me a headache 😅

He mentioned the early termination fee currently is £413.54p so quite the chunk of change to either move provider/new account takeover. Not in a CityFibre area either unfortunately

I'll stick it out for a bit, if I see a good deal and the ETF is low enough at the time, I'll switch. Thanks for your advice 🙂 ❤️
