Existing Wi-Fi Extenders

Hi,

Just transferred from Plusnet to EE as the missus wants to retain a landline and Plusnet don't offer digital home phone.

EE told me I could retain my existing ssid and password but I can't because the password rules on the Smart Hub Plus won't accept the password so had to change it. A pain but have done it for all devices to connect to it but can't on a couple of third party wi-fi extenders which have the old Plusnet ssid and password so obviously can't connect to the EE router which won't connect directly to their ip addresses (192.168.1.82 and 192.168.1.69) to change the password, they both just timeout.

Is there any way to get it to connect to them? TIA.

@jmclaugh : The pwd rules of the SH+ are only warnings & you may override them.

What make & models are these third party wi-fi extenders? Not all will play well with EE SH routers.

@jmclaugh Probably too late now, you may be down the rabbit hole with it all. Plusnet Hub PN2 user's would be and should ask for the BT Smart Hub 2 version or the EE one that's the SH20A if still available, like for like unit with a working active DV Digital Voice connection on the back off the unit.

You need to say what your old Third Party extenders are make wise, and then also no guarantees that they will work with an EE Hub, you say Plus but there are two, a 7 or a 6 version. Link below shows which is which.

Thanks very much for the replies guys. The the box EE sent it just says it's a Smart Hub Plus, no number, it has the settings card on the top.

I changed the password back to the one I used on Plusnet and both TP Link extenders now connect to the router and I can use both but I still can't connect to either through their IP addresses (timeout). I thought maybe to change the hub allocated ip addresses to the extenders' addresses (192.168.1.82 and 192.168.1.69) so can get to their settings but it won't let me do that.

I noticed the hub hasn't got IPv6 enabled which surprised me, is there any reason not to enable it?

@jmclaugh How are you trying to connect to the Tp's they may work web wise, try http://192.168.1.82 or the 69 and see if the connect to manage them.

IpV6 does work out off the box EE Hub wise as long as your device supports, do a www.whatismyipaddress.com and see if both iPv4/6 are returned. The EE Web returned as off is BOGUS so ignore what you see hub wise unless you have set it wrong.

The link to the Hubs is above, click it and see what your hub looks like, If SH31B then you have the EE Smart Hub 6 Plus version.

I use bookmarks to connect to the hub and extenders using their ip addresses, both extenders timeout.

The whatismyipaddress came back with both v4 and 6 addresses for my laptop, for IPv6 the hub says "hub status enabled" and "network status disabled". I haven't changed any settings for it.

As the hub has compatible wi-fi it must be the 6 of which that link says there are 3 models, SH31B/SH32B/SH30A, no idea which one I have.

@jmclaugh History off the EE Hubs,

SH30A 1st one, has a 1Gb/s wan interface and connects to Copper/FTTP so has a DSL port back off the hub.

SH31B 2nd one, has a 2.5Gb/s wan interface and connects to Copper/FTTP so has a DSL port back off the hub.

SH32B 3rd one, has a 2.5Gb/s wan interface BUT only connects to the FTTP Full Fibre ONLY so there has to be an ONT for it to connect to.

Is there NOT a label on the hub, if not then the carboard packaging will have a Model Number label....

Have a look at your FW level if PROD-80004 then SH30A model if PROD-83002 SH31/32 is possible types.

Status Technical Log, used to have the model so you may still be able to see it there also.

@jmclaugh Well done, if you do wish and those IP's as before have never been assigned, you can use the web manager and set them to static, ie always use this IP address, your choice but happy playing with it all.👍
