WPA2 compatibility

I have just transitioned from BT Total Broadband to EE Full Fibre 1.6, but am having more than a few connectivity issues. The main one is that my ADT house alarm panel cannot connect to the wifi, and following many discussions with their service desk today they arrived at the suggestion that the connectivity is via WPA3 when their panel that I have installed can only connect to WPA2. It was suggested that I check this out with EE and ask them to switch connectivity back to WPA2. This led to a wasted hour on the phone with an EE 'guide' who had no idea about anything I was suggesting but after many interruptions talking with their supervisor and manager, informed me that on the Smart Hun 7 Pro this wasn't possible - and that was that! The worst tech support 'service' I've ever experienced!

I've spend the evening trying to understand what can be done and I have discovered there is a a separate Compatible WiFi mode for older devices and that turning on the compatibility setting creates an alternative secondary network with older WPA2 security. Is this a solution to my problem and if so, how do you enable it? I've gone through the suggested process and it appears that the compatibility mode is turned on, but how does the ADT panel connect to this alternative Wifi?

As I am about to go on holiday and now cannot secure my alarm system, this is a very live and practical problem for me that I need to resolve. Also, could this WPA 2/3 connectivity issue be the cause of why my SAMSUNG TV does not seem to hold the Wifi connection details once the TV is turned off?

I hadn't expected these issues going from BT to EE. Broadband - it's definitely not what it said on the tin!

Sometimes older or weaker devices may not be compatible with the default WiFi settings of EE Smart Hubs with their WPA3 Security. Try setting up Compatible WiFi on the router under Advanced > Wireless Settings > Config > Compatible WiFi (it defaults to 2.4 GHz only & WPA2) & connect your problematic 2.4 GHz or WPA2 devices to that. It presents itself as a separate network SSID of the form "MainSSID-Comp".

Thanks XRaySpex for you response - followed your suggested solution and it worked, although the end result failed. I need to upgrade to the next generation ADT panel which will then allow connection to the Compatability wifi network., which I probably needed to do anyway and its quite a cheap solution.

Thanks JimM11 - the link solution fixed my TV issue and will also solve my ADT problem once I update their panel.

@pdm3105 As long as it is all working, that is the main requirement for it all. Good luck sorting out your alarm panel those always seem to get side stepped when getting new Equipment installed and being compatible to work.👍
