RISK Switched from BT to EE for home and mobile but lost my second phone at home

I've recently switched from BT to EE for my home broadband. I was already an EE Mobile customer.
Thing is I am not steady on my feet and recently had another bad fall - as in my Apple Watch (minus sim) wanted to phone emergency services!

I previously had a SECOND BT phone in an easily reachable place between bedroom and bathroom for if I fell - and I now no longer have this second phone - which was intended for situations like this.

I'm trying to work out how I can have a "to be rarely used" phone in the exact same place.
I'm planning on swopping my iPhone 12 (which uses a digital sim ie no card) for a new one in the autumn and wonder if I could use this to operate off my home broadband.

If so, what sim would I need to make that connection? It's not for going out. It's strictly for staying at home and linking to the home broadband!

Bottom line I'm looking for a cheapish solution to reduce the risk of problems if I fell - and need to ask for help.

This time I didnt break anything and was able to "bottom walk" the lengthy journey to my chair where my mobile was. But it would have been so much easier to call a friend with a key if I had an accessible working phone nearby.

Do I really need to buy an Apple Watch which I can use to phone? Or is there an easier solution

I've now identified I can get an Asda "pay as you go data pack" for £4 a month for talk and text - which is all I need.

I'm just wondering if anybody at EE has realised that there's a bunch of older people out there who need spare telephones for emergencies which won't be used a lot.

I'm also investigating an alarm service - but cannot seem to find anything about this on the EE site......
Has EE calculated the number of older people in the UK recently?

You can have as many landline phones as you like, at least a fair no., running off DV from your BB. Any that are remote from the router need to be plugged into an ATA adapter which plugs into a mains socket & talks to the router using DECT. See Set up and use a Digital Home Phone Adapter

@KatheT wrote:

I'm planning on swopping my iPhone 12 (which uses a digital sim ie no card) for a new one in the autumn and wonder if I could use this to operate off my home broadband.

If so, what sim would I need to make that connection?

No special SIM. It would use your BB using WiFi Calling if it can't connect over the mobile network.

Jim - thanks for the note about the vulnerable policy - I didn't know they had one.
Also I've got phones (but none corded). I was wanting to use what is going to soon become my "old iPhone" via my home broadband. But can't work out a way to do this.

You just make calls from your "old iPhone" in the usual way. It is independent of your BB except that if a call can't be made over the mobile network it will use WiFi Calling over the BB network.

If all your handsets are cordless you must have a corded base station to go with them.
