Hub 7 Buffering with Linksys router Bridge mode attached

Here’s a cleaned-up version for an EE Community/forum post:

I have an EE Smart Hub 7, with the 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands enabled, connected to an EE WiFi Extender.

I also have an additional Linksys router running in bridge/AP mode, which I use only for my 2.4 GHz IoT devices. It is using WPA2, as some of these devices don’t support WPA3.

There are only around 10 devices connected to the Linksys 2.4 GHz network, including:

Doorbell
Chime
4 × CCTV cameras
Smart speakers
A few other IoT devices

I’ve noticed that whenever the Linksys router is switched on, devices connected directly to my main EE Hub 7 network sometimes experience video buffering or brief pauses.

When I switch the Linksys router off, the main EE network appears to perform better and the buffering seems to disappear.

The Linksys is only handling 2.4 GHz devices, while my main devices are generally connected to the Hub 7 over 5 GHz. The EE extender is also connected to the Hub 7.

Could the additional Linksys router be causing WiFi interference or channel congestion, even though it is mainly using 2.4 GHz?

Are there any recommended 2.4 GHz channel or channel-width settings I should use on the Linksys to minimise interference with the Hub 7 and EE extender?

Instead of using the Linksys for your 2.4 GHz IoT devices try using the Compatible WiFi on the SH 7 Pro under Advanced > Wireless Settings > Config > Compatible WiFi (it defaults to 2.4 GHz only & WPA2) & connect your problematic 2.4 GHz devices to that.

@FAM0422UK Take it your Linksys is connected to the EE Hub by an Ethernet cable? Would take a look at your 7 Pro Hub with a wifi analyzer, think you will find that the Hidden ssid and the EE WiFi will both be transmitting the 2.4Ghz band also.
