There are a number of options.

The old PSTN (Public Switch Telephone Network) closes down in January and the “phone” service becomes part of the broadband connection. However, if you want phone only that broadband connection is very basic, just for the phone and part of the agreement is not to use it for anything more. It can be delivered over copper or fibre, so don’t assume you have to take a new fibre connection. That only applies in some areas where new copper sales are already blocked.

For people still on ADSL or a phoneline only there is a temporary option that effectively continues the existing copper line. (It gets switched to a broadband connection at the exchange).

As Jim said, posting on the BT forum would be better:

https://community.bt.com/

I’m not an expert in this area. Your best bet is "iniltous". He is probably the authority on this type of question, on the BT forum.

EDIT: And, while I think about it, don't let on you are a EE customer or they will suggest you post here.

My parents had an extortionally high priced broadband and landline contract as the agent duped my father (now deceased).

Trying to get a new cheaper deal but as an existing customer(contract expired) the cost qouted is still over £65.

Mum doesnt use broadband so can i just have a landline and calls deal? Cant seem to fine this option on the website.

Thanks Eric

@EricB22 Just pick up the landline and dial 150 on it, see if you can get a landline only deal, there will not be that option as an online purchase pretty sure EE does not do Landline only packages, if not see if EE will swing you over to BT for one. With you contract over you may just have to cancel the BB/Landline with EE but will be way smoother if you can have EE transition you across to BT.

You do not say, but hopefully the account is in your mothers name with your father deceased now, EE WILL NOT take any instruction account wise without the owner being present at all times....

Do a search, bt landline only on google/edge etc... Also have a quick read link below will give you a better idea picture wise. There may also be a final and future part to the Temp measure below.....

Openreach Launches Alternative UK Analogue Phone Line Product - ISPreview UK

EE does not provide a Landline Only service but BT does.

If she went to BT for a landline then before Jan. 2027 they would convert it to a Dedicated Landline Service, which is effectively "Digital Voice from the Exchange", that does not require having BB or a router in the home. It would use the existing phone master socket & internal phone wiring within the home. So no change to your phones or their positioning.

I have this from BT. See Digital Voice with No Router, No Change or Extra Kit in Home, No Engineer Visit

Yes, that's what I meant by "For people still on ADSL or a phoneline only there is a temporary option that effectively continues the existing copper line. (It gets switched to a broadband connection at the exchange)."

My understanding, though, is that it is a temporary thing for people that don't have broadband and can't currently get FTTC or FTTP. Long term switching it at the exchange is not viable, as 4000 out of the 5600 exchanges are destined to close down.

Thanks Jim

Yes the account is in my mothers name and i also have controlled access.

It looks like we could convert to digital voice landline through BT, just a couple of hoops to jump through.
