WiFi extender SW30A on 2.4ghz backhaul

Hi,

First is the SW30A supposed to act like a mesh network along with the SH30A? Mine always clings onto the device until far out of range.

Secondly, , is it expected that the extender reports 'Connection type: 2.4 GHz' when wirelessly connected to the hub, or should the backhaul normally use 5 GHz under good signal conditions?"

No matter how close it is to the hub, it only connects at 2.4, which only give about 10-20% of the broadband speed.

@Jimbuck999 Have you checked that the SH and the SW are both outputting the 5Ghz and the Hidden ssid's associated with both devices? Use the Mac addresses for both devices to see what they are doing. Since you also have one off the first EE 6 Plus Hubs can you say if you are still on a FTTC copper connection or moved upto a FF Full Fibre as yet.

@JimM11 so both the SH and SW output 5Ghz to the devices, and I can see on the Hub web interface what devices are connected and either 2.4 or 5Ghz.

The main issues is that the SW's on connect to the SH via 2.4Ghz, which as a result has slowed down the speeds, and this is regardless of how far the SW is from the SH.

I'm on Full Fibre to the property. The SH router outputs around 900mbps while connection to the SW is around 100mbps.

(this is the SW's connection to the SH)

I cant see any hidden ssids.

@Jimbuck999 What wifi analyzer are you using to look at them both?

Although this is a picture from the BT Complete wifi unit i did, can you do the same and post up like the example all your Extender page capture, be sure to hide the ssid's mac etc to get it through for viewing. You will see it is connected on the 5Ghz band but the owner only had a FF150 connection and i had no access to the BT Hub to run a full speed check Extender / Hub, but the 150Mb/s was not an issue and sync was 866Mb/s up/down to the Extender.

Hidden's will look like the 2nd link and show up with an associated Mac, you just have to work out what is what when you check.

As the hub has a 3 x 3 2.4Ghz any device on the 2.4Ghz band 2 x 2 should easily hit around the 150Mb/s at speed. wired nic that is only 100Mb/s will never go much higher than about 95Mb/s....

The WiFi Extender 6 Plus (SW30A) will mesh with any variant of Smart Hub 6 Plus, SH30A, SH31B or SH32B, whose diffs are:

SH30A: DSL & Full Fibre, 1 Gig WAN port.
SH31B: DSL & Full Fibre, 2.5 Gig WAN port.
SH32B: Full Fibre only, 2.5 Gig WAN port.

@Jimbuck999 Your picture is cleared now, your extender at -74dbm you are way to far from the EE Hub distance wise, or something is messing with your wireless wifi signals, do you have ANY other transmitting devices, Range Extenders, Sky Q boxes etc with wifi turned on as old hotspot's...
