Poor WiFi coverage

I’ve recently been moved from Plusnet to EE and am finding the coverage from the new router is not as good. It doesn’t reach as far as the old router and as our 4/5G connection here isn’t great, it’s resulting in us losing internet connectivity.

I wondered if anyone else has experienced the same and if so, what you’ve been able to do about it.

I'm sorry to hear that you're not getting the reach of your router isn't what you'd expect, but we do offer WiFi extenders so that you can boost this.

Not true you moved up a gear to wifi6 and speed demon but with a few oops, and pushing the signal about as far as a wifi5 device is just not the same. Best bet if you were happy with your PN2 version will be the Equivalent BT Smarthub2 version, loads 2nd hand from £20 onwards on the flea market site. Pop it on and enjoy the same as you had PN wise, but with a working DV connection on that version of the Hub.

Thanks Rachel. I appreciate that suggestion. I would just say it isn’t that the reach of the router isn’t what I expect, it’s that it isn’t what it used to be before EE took over Plusnet. Your router is not reaching as far as the router Plusnet provided. I didn’t think this move to EE would lower the broadband performance or cost me more to compensate.

EE hasn't taken over PN. They are still separate ISPs. You migrated your BB from PN to EE.

Just been transferred across on the 21st.

At the risk of asking a daft question, did the new hub end up in exactly the same place as the old one? It's surprising how the structure of a building can affect a WiFi signal and even unwittingly ending up on the other side of solid internal wall can make a notable difference.

Also (sorry for the second daft question) but are your Wifi devices operating on the same frequency as they were on the PlusNet hub? 2.4Ghz band tends to pass through solid objects better and travel further, but you'll get lower throughput. 5Ghz gives you better throughput than 2.4Ghz but only if there are fewer nasty obstructions/shorter distances involved.

I can't give you a direct comparison on performance in my case as I ended up installing my new EE hub in a different location in readiness for going FTTP, so wireless performance for us has changed a bit for certain devices anyway.
