Openreach installing FTTC when FTTP is available

I've not gotten round to updating my copper broadband for family health reasons but had Openreach email saying they coming round to update digital phone & putting me on core 67 which is FTTC even though full fibre is on my street. I will receive my smart hub plus & phone adaptor shortly.

They say i have a fortnight to change mind, not sure what that means as won't be going back to copper but just wondered if FTTC will still work ok after the switch off in January? I guess they wouldn't be doing it if it didn't. i Should've just ordered FTTP but as said i haven't . I guess i'll get this done & upgrade after.. I didn't think if FF was available on my street they would do FTTC.

@gazmix_1973 Do you have a medical marker against you home Broadband, that can be a complete reason for NOT going FFTP as yet, FTTC will still be working in complete DV over copper for many moons to come, FTTP can be in two flavours exchange wise, Priority is one off those reason's but will require a specialist team to take care off it all with a medical marker against it!

The Copper to FF Full Fibre can be done later so do not worry about it, should be a FREE upgrade EE/OR wise, just takes planning and time to get it done.... Have a look at the BTW with your ADDRESS details filled in to look see, number and postcode is generally all that is required. If you post it up be sure to hide all your personal details....

Once FF Full Fibre is installed THERE IS NO GOING back to copper, just will never happen at all....

They're just keeping you on the existing type of BB you already had but moving your landline to DV. It's only if you were a new cust ordering from EE that you can't have FTTC when FTTP is available.

You sure that email was from OR? It's not their product to decide you should be on the Core Fibre 67 plan. It's for EE to decide & instruct OR to do the necessay work.

@JimM11 No medical marker, i guess you mean the button round neck linked to landline. Yeh i know i have full fibre on street, they've all got it.

@XRaySpeX EE initially contacted me regarding digital home phone & that Openreach will be contacting me which they did & gave me a date which i accepted.

Currently i'm on full copper, very slow speeds but said it will rise to minimum of 67mbps. I called & person i talked to said after fttc is done i then have a fortnight to maybe update to faster package but also said i can upgrade anytime which i thought was contradictory.

@gazmix_1973 The DV upgrade is a pretty straight forward way going forward, just remove your old EE Hub, stick the new one on, let it do any FW updates and reboots etc, plug the landline into the back off the EE Hub they have sent you or use the DVA if getting that supplied, If you are still on the old EE System they may also be transferring you to the NEW system at the same time, so a double win regarding that.... Fibre 67 is still a good and relative speed, it's not that slow in most individual cases, i had FTTC at 40/10 Mb/s as just too far from the street box to get any faster, was NOT an issue unless the daughter decided to stream a 4K movie, then bandwidth was just not enough and the Daughter/Mother argument's took over, FF speed you need to settle on but do decide and cover what is best for the home, i settled on the FF500 which is limited by OR when needed to 200Mb/s as a download, trust me have seen it happen.

@JimM11 : "Core" is in the name of a plan for New EE BB, but not for legacy.

@gazmix_1973 : Regarding speeds: What does BT Wholesale Broadband Availability Checker estimate for your phone number? Post just the whole table and the line above it, blanking out your phone number. If it doesn't recognise your phone number or you don't have one, use the Address Checker, not the Postcode Checker.

You say you are on "full copper". Do you mean you're on ADSL?

@JimM11 yep it looks easy enough, they sending out an adapter as router will be upstairs. New system, yes i assume so, i was initially mailing here to make sure i'm good with fttc after Jan which you say i am so that's good news. Shoul'dve just ordered FF before EE contacted but couldn't. Will do after but the 67-73 probably adequate for 1 extra device & a firestick. Just the windows updates take ages.

@JimM11 : No, there is also Fibre 36. 50 & 67, all of which will be FTTC (SoGEA). OP's "Core 67" will be the last of these.

I too missed "full copper" on 1st reading but that could just mean full copper to the home, thus covering ADSL & FTTC.

Ah, thank you. Yes, you're currently on ADSL Max (speeds up to 7.5 Meg) & are being moved to FTTC (speeds up to 80 Meg) together with a digital landline. There is FTTP available there but I suppose cuz you were on ADSL, EE didn't want to move you all the way to Full Fibre.

@XRaySpeX yes thanks. I'll see how it goes over the months. As it won't be affected in January he's got plenty time to evaluate what he's got but as health & me possibly having to move back there at some point, maybe i'd want more i dunno, there's only my phone, a firestick & maybe a smart tv in future. Yes i recall, maybe i did go on a bit but i guess i've always a question, that's me.
