Confused about switching from BT

Hi, all

Looking to switch from BT to EE, currently on a BT contract that ends 22nd August.

When looking at changing EE know my BT details, but are only offering me like-for-like deals ( 900mbps)

I'd happily go down to 500mbps, the kids have moved out and we're not streaming as much, but I'm not being offered any option to go slower?

Also I thought I'd get a start date option, but it wants to switch me tomorrow - so what would happen with the rest of my BT contract?

Should I basically just leave the switch until nearer the 22nd of August?

Generally if you switch from BT to EE thro' your BT a/c it will move you like-for-like as soon as it can do it. You will not pay Early Termination Fees to BT but you will need to start a new contract term with EE.

Unfortunately EE will not allow you to just migrate to EE as if a new cust. cuz you are already an existing cust. of the BT Group.

Thanks, I'm happy to switch now if there's no early penalties with BT.

However, I wouldn't mind seeing how much 500mbps would be in comparison to my existing 900mbps.

How do I do that?

Staying at 900mbps is only saving me £15 a month, which is disappointing.

@bowfer You will not be allowed to downgrade your package during a switch from BT to EE, you are an existing BT customer and BT / EE are both parts of the BT Group off companies, BT will waive the transfer fee for the ETF that is all.

You want a better deal then move your ISP's. Current capture for new customer pricing on EE when approved for general viewing EE website. Will be BB only and the cheapest package available to use, so you need to check your like for like as no idea what you have.

You are not eligible for those prices shown above unless you are coming to EE as a new cust. from an ISP outside the BT Group.

@XRaySpeX Correct i know that and hopefully the OP has now got the fact's he needs. I would be termed as a new customer not being with any BT Group company.

So to get lots cheaper I really need to wait until much close to my BT termination and go to someone else ( not EE ) as a new customer?

Food for thought, I'm currently £71 a month and would have liked to (roughly) half that.

@bowfer No go now, some also include we will give you X amount to switch provider along with the lower fee's you need to do a like for like comparison..... OTS switching varies but typical is 14-21 Days for OR and the ISP to get there act together making it all happen! At £71 per month you must have BB/Landline with Dial package, and possibly TV also..... If 2nd picture does not get cleared it's £27 for FF500 with Free phone, no call package.

Nope, £71 is purely broadband - nothing else - no home phone, no BT TV.

I know it's bad, although it's been very reliable.

And at one point, years ago, it was impossible for me to change to another provider.

I tried several times, it always fell down for 'technical reasons' on the switch day.

I'm hoping now I have fibre I won't have that issue.

@bowfer Surely not you must have something extra, NO Disc extenders etc?
