Printer conectivity

I am a returning customer to BT/ Now EE!!

was with Sky no issues at all except rising broadband cost.

change over activated yesterday two TVs two mobiles one IPad connected (eventually ).
I cannot for some reason connect my HO Envy 5530 printer . It is noticing the correct broadband however refuses to actually connect I have the printer around 1 metre from the router at present as it lives in my office upstairs

That printer seems fairly old. It's all over eBay.

Sometimes older or weaker devices may not be compatible with the default WiFi settings of EE Smart Hubs. Try setting up Compatible WiFi on the router under Advanced > Wireless Settings > Config > Compatible WiFi (it defaults to 2.4 GHz only & WPA2) & connect your problematic 2.4 GHz devices to that.

@Polestar2 You do not say what hub you have, but if Compatible Network is available then try that and only on the 2.4Ghz band, it's an old wireless N device. WPS connect may or may not work you will have to try once you Enable the Comp feature.

Done all suggestions even called EE tried 2.4 no change.

According to EE advisor who tried to assist he checked speed and although I am paying for 50mbps I am actually receiving 26mbps

looks like I might be returning to Sky Briadband 🙈

See above reply : not sure I have any other option but to return to Sky Broadband .

advisor from EE suggested giving it until tomorrow

@Polestar2 What EE Hub did you get from them, was it the EE Smart Hub 6 Plus version for the copper FTTC at those speed's more than likely the SH31B version. You would by the sound of what you are saying be more suited to the BT Smarthub2 version on the connection. Link to the Hubs below. With Sky you probably had the SR203 Dark Grey coloured Hub with the 4 LED's in the front.

Try running the speed test in the EE app. That will not only measure the raw BB connection speeds you are getting at the router as well as speeds to the device from which you are testing.

What does BT Wholesale Broadband Availability Checker > Address Checker estimate for your address? Post the whole table, the text below it and the line above it, blanking out your address.

Yes They supplied Hub6 plus .

speed has now dropped to 25 Showing weak signal on test app

looks like I will have to contact them .

app suggests no outage issues either ..Baffled !

Done most of yesterday and just this morning .signal has actually dropped to 25 from 26

should be receiving 46

@Polestar2 What did you have with sky? There is also the new 10 day training period for the FTTC copper connection if that is what you have, easy way is the hub is still connected from the DSL socket on the back off the EE Hub to an Openreach Master phone socket. You do not want to be resetting the Hub too many times a the start off the changeover from the sky version. Grabbed an old log file from way back in the day and marked what is required for you to look at, https://192.168.1.254 and the Advanced side logs.

SH31B connected FTTC on a copper connection to the home.

Sky model sr203 nothing too complicated .

just got off the phone from EE tele agent Guide..numerous tests **bleep** etc

sending engineer .

not been live 24 hours .awful service .

whisked I had stayed with Sky

It seems that there are two separate issues here. The internet connexion speed is one, but it shouldn't affect whether the printer can be connected to the hub, and you should be able to print from say a computer on the same wifi network independent of the internet speed.

For the latter I've just connected an oldish HP printer to a new mesh network and it took quite a few goes before it worked. It was a pain. Have you tried using WPS? There is a push button on the side of the router and check, but I think on older HP printers you hold the wireless button down until it blinks after a few seconds. Try that a few times. Each time it will try and connect for a couple of minutes. You will then need to check it is recognized on the computer, assuming that it what you are printing from.

@Polestar2 @Richardr66 There is also a WPS Toggle in the Advanced Wireless wifi settings screen, may also be worth a try all depends on how the EE Hub is setup. Your device is old, and may just require you to turn the Main WiFi off, the Comp on and see what transpires for the connection, there is a lot going on EE Wireless WiFi transmission wise with the 6+ Hub and your Printer may just not like it all in what it see's to make a decision to connect, it wants to be on a 2.4Ghz band with a WPA2-PSK key for it's comms.

@Polestar2 I moved from Sky to EE, then EE back to Sky 11 months later, from sky to now vodafone, the EE Hub had NO issues connecting anything, but it was way different back in Mar 2024 to what it is now with all the things that EE are trying to implement on it!
