WiFi dropping conndction

I stream music in my kitchen using a B&O speaker but it would stop streaming for no apparent reason. I upgraded to WiFi 7 in the hope this would resolve the issue but it didn’t. After much thought and discussion the technicians decided the issue would be resolved if I could connect the speaker via the 5mhz channel, I tired and tried but the speaker kept connecting / re-connecting to the 2.4mhz channel.

I then had a thought, out of nowhere, maybe it’s my microwave that’s blocking the 2.4mhz WiFi signal - I tested it by using the microwave and seeing what happened and success as the each time the microwave was switched on the WiFi connection broke. Now I just stop streaming while using the microwave and after I using the microwave start streaming again. It’s a bit of an inconvenience but at least the WiFi signal no longer breaks for no appearing reason. The ideal solution would be to connect the speaker to the 5mhz channel but as I can’t force the speaker to connect and I didn’t want to set-up a separate WiFi environment with just 5mhz, as I have some devices that are 2.4nhz only, I’m happy to stop streaming for the 5 mins I use a microwave.

@Racingsnake88 : Try setting up Compatible WiFi on the router under Advanced > Wireless Settings > Config > Compatible WiFi , enable the 5 GHz band & connect your speakers to that.

@Racingsnake88 Frequency's are 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz, microwave ovens operate in the 2.4Ghz band so they can cause issues, is the Hub or the B&O Speaker close to the MWave, they generally do not cause issues, mine if completely fine but the Hub and the Bose are at least 15 foot away, can also just be the MWave as sometimes when they get older issues happen....

Thanks Jim - sorry about the mhz and ghz typo. My hub is on a different floor to my speaker, I did try moving the speaker down a floor and connecting when it was close to the hub but still picked the 2.4ghz channel. I think it’s maybe the microwave as it’s around 10 years old so maybe time to change the microwave.

Thanks - I have set-up a compatible network but when I tried to switch off the 2.4ghz channel so the comp network only had a 5ghz channel it wouldn’t let me, I didn’t understand why my main network had a toggle switch for 2.4ghz and the compatible network didn’t have a toggle switch. I tried connecting with EE support to ask how to set-up the compatible network but couldn’t speak to human so decided to leave it and just turn my music off while using the microwave. The Compatible WiFi network defaults to 2.4 GHz ON & 5 GHz OFF. You can't turn OFF 2.4 GHz but you should turn 5 GHz ON.
