My Google Pixel 9a won't pick up wi fi when I come into my house even though it will when I go into a neighbour's house and he can when he comes into mine. I got a new broadband supplier (EE) at the same time that I was changing from an old phone. My neighbour is with a different supplier. So, yes, it seems to be the combination of the Google Pixel and the EE router that is the problem. I have read on the internet that “If your Google Pixel 9a will not connect to your EE router (such as a Smart Hub 7), it is likely due to compatibility issues between the Pixel's advanced security settings and the router’s dual-band management” and I have set up a compatibility network on the router as suggested https://ee.co.uk/help/broadband/manage-use/how-to-set-up-compatible-wifi . It was still hit and miss whether my phone would pick up wi-fi automatically when I came home until I also turned off the phone's Adaptive Connectivity feature. Everything seems to work fine now.

Google Technical Support say that the links I have provided are not from authorized website partners of Google, that the problem is not recorded on their system and insist that the EE routers are compatible to Pixel phones. They recommend visiting the repair center - but unless they have an EE Smart Hub 7 router it would be impossible to replicate the problem.

Interestingly, this is my second new phone. The shop gave me a rebate for my first (Pixel 9) as they couldn't cure what now appears to have been this same problem!

Google Pixel 8 WiFi issues?

We're aware of reports from Google Pixel 8 users who are having difficulties connecting their phones to the new Smart Hub 7 Plus.

When trying to connect your Pixel 8 to the hub's WiFi, you may find that it fails to connect at all, or connects very briefly before disconnecting.

We've established that this is a recent problem following the big December Pixel update - Android 16’s new updates

Our engineers have raised the issue with Google and we're hopeful the problem will be resolved in a future Android update.

In the meantime, you can work around the problem by having your Pixel 8 device use the Compatible Wi-Fi network. Steps for activating and using this feature can be found here - Set up and use Compatible WiFi | Broadband Help | EE

Hi, is there any update on this?

Google are denying there is an issue and instructed me to attend a repair shop at EE who said all they can do is charge £280 to swap the main board out as they're not aware of any WiFi issues.

Hi any news?

My son's pixel 8 won't work at all. Had to set him up on the guest wifi which isn't helpful for access other devices

My pixel 9 pro xl has stopped working correctly since an Android update installed this weekend. It is now very intermittent with my phone sometimes saying "Saved/can't connect try again later".

Need to check my other son's pixel 10......

You can put the BT Hub back on get working but for sure rolling back the wifi connection type to that supported by the BT Hub, Smarthub2 will be required if using a landline phone connection if required and plugged into the back of it. BT Hub works on the connection, and the EE app has some control over it!

Both the main and Compatible WiFi networks are on the same VLAN. Can't speak for SONOS but I have Tapo devices and a Wireless printer that I can connect to the Compatible WiFi network and devices connected to the default WiFi can 'talk' to them fine 🤔

The other option is as mentioned by @fuzzykiwi - you can use WPA3-PTM instead on the main WiFi network. Double-edged sword though, as this may then create problems for other devices on your network meaning that then need connecting to Compatible WiFi 🙄

Devices also don't tend to like it when routers are switched between security modes. You sometimes need to 'forget' and reconnect to the WiFi network after making the change.
