Hi all.

I have smart pro 7 with the latest wifi extender. The extender in placed to cover my back garden. I have 2 ring cameras in the garden, 1 closer to the house the other approx 12m from the extender. At night the furthest 1 drops signal. This also happens if I swap the cameras over eliminating the camera.

Any ideas appreciated.

Older or weaker devices may not be compatible with the default WiFi settings of EE Smart Hubs. Try setting up Compatible WiFi on the router under Advanced > Wireless Settings > Config > Compatible WiFi (it defaults to 2.4 GHz & WPA2) & connect your problematic 2.4 GHz devices to that.

I did think that but it works most of the time it just drops to a low signal in the early hours. Wasn't sure if the wifi signal gets reduced for any reason.

I use the cameras to capture wildlife at night mainly foxes at 3am. That's how I know it drops out.

I'll have to look at different cameras if compatibility is an issue.

Done all that. Signal seems worse on the 2nd camera, reads 82. That's the one 12m away from the extender. Seperated by house wall and fresh air. Camera 1 reads 47 and is fine.

Weirdly now on the EE app the extender has a no signal icon. It also says it's online.

You may have to leave the smart wireless extender to sort itself out, there is not enough tools in the EE toolkit to see what they are doing at the best off times....

If it's not going to work, switch the comp off, and move your camera a little closer, see the link for the Ring RSSI values, it explains were it needs to be.

Just resetting the extender to see if it will reconnect. If not then I'll reverse everything. The signal on the 2nd camera was much stronger before. But that makes sense as it was connected to the much closer extender not the main hub in my front room.

All fixed. Thanks for your help Jim.

I just needed to power off/on the extender for that to come back online. Then do the same for the cameras. Changing to the comp network seems to have fixed the dropping out issue. And now they have reconnected to the extender we have strong signals all round.

Cheers again.
