Hey folks, recently we got new internet installed at my house, previously we where getting like 40mbp/s but now we're on that super fast fiber getting roughly 700-900mbp/s. WiFi wise, we are getting those speeds but for some reason I'm getting awful ethernet speeds on my PC, in preparation for the speeds I went and got myself new TP-Link Gigabit capable powerline plugs as the ones I was using where fairly dated.

Now, the speeds I'm currently getting on my PC fall between the 4mbp/s and 12mbp/s range which is dramatically below the 700 I'm getting on WiFi, now I thought this was maybe a PC problem but I've troubleshooted every facet of my computer and to no avail, I also plugged in the Ethernet to my brothers Xbox to see if the results where similar and they where, I also went back to my old TP-Link plugs to see if I would at least get the speeds I was getting on my older internet package but they where just the same, around 10mbp/s.

My untrained guess is that the router just isn't pushing out any internet into the Ethernet ports but just seems unlikely. (We have a SmartHub 6 Plus)

But yeah I just don't know, would love some help with this.

Well, it's not helping any by sticking Powerlines in the way. They are never fully efficient & will lose bandwidth along the way. You can't measure what the router is pushing out onto the Ethernet ports that way.

Show what a directly Ethernet connected PC reports as its speed & you could make your point.

Also run the speedtest in the app which will show both the raw BB speed to the router & the speed to the device from which it run.

The EE app speedtest is reporting just fine 900mbp/s download speeds, and sure I get your point about powerlines but its more than a hassle for me to take my computer and monitor all the way downstairs just to run another speedtest for the result to more than likely be the same. There's clearly some other issue here that I'm trying to figure out. I have also never had any issues with powerlines, even my old crusty ones (which I have also tried reusing, to no avail)

Hi @stuntmanfan

As others have said power line adaptors are great if your wiring is good/new on your socket and wiring is in a loop, but degrades if it needs to go via the socket box or the sockets are old. Also check that the adaptors are correctly synced.

I will bow to @XRaySpeX experience on this next point but there maybe a delay on data from the EE router port and it maybe worth testing with network switch to sit between your router and the adapter.

Thanks
