I have had a DDNS account using dyndns.org for many years using various EE routers which supported dyndns, now the smart hub 7 plus only allows 5 presety options, none of which are any good for me - is there anyway that this DDNS account canbe used with this router??

Also on previous routers you were able to rename devices attached to your router to give them meaning full names instead of names that mean nothing or mac addresses - again is it possible to do this and if so how?

I think most allow the creation of free accounts.

Another alternative might be to run DynDNS updater software on another machine on your network to do the updating, rather than the hub.

When I initially identified this problem the only one that was suitable were not accepting new customers or you had to pay plus I have had a subscription to dyndns for years and using it on EE supplied routers.

I have replaced this router today with the previous one and that's working fine for ddns so I think I will leave that online now, but will certainly check the next router handles all the functions I require before signing up for another contract.

@Jules-Ewell - I have non-paid accounts with all but EasyDNS so I'm sure it's possible. From memory though, the signup processes/user interfaces aren't the most intuitive and do heavily promote the paid options. Understandable point about your existing subscription though.

Another tip: DNS-O-Matic acts as an aggregator for other Dynamic DNS services i.e. you configure the hub to talk to DNS-O-Matic > DNS-O-Matic talks to other Dynamic DNS providers > Your IP is updated across all the services you've configured DNS-O-Matic to talk to.

Looks like one of the DNS-O-Matic configuration options is DynDNS (see below), so this would probably give you a roundabout way of using DynDNS (somewhat) natively with the EE hub: -
