FTTP Ping quite high 17ms when was on Bt I remeber lower pings of around 5ms?

I returned to EE after Virgin Media's failed promises, so I am now on Full Fibre using my own Netgear R300 on the 900Mb line. However, I am getting lower pings than Virgin's 30ms, but it's still in the 17ms–25ms range. I am hard-wired into my router. The router doesn't have QoS services, which could be hampering performance compared to other routers. I am wondering I am using the old BT Home Hub username and password; has BT changed that? I remember when I used to be on BT it was around 2ms to 15ms.

Obviously, as I am using my own Netgear router, support probably won't answer questions, but I'm wondering if anyone else can shed some light. The ONT was here from before when I was on BT FTTP, so the Virgin connection was old hybrid fibre, but Openreach called out and activated it in a day.

What do you get from ping bbc.co.uk ? I get 13ms from that Speedtest.net but only 5ms from ping.

@novagaming is it any better, or worse if you ise the EE or BT router if you still have it?

Are you using a VPN?
