Slow upload to series x via Ethernet

Morning one and all

ive had ee fibre installed since July time and not had a issue so far but over the last few weeks I’ve nriiced while doing a speed test on Xbox via Ethernet I’m getting good download speeds typically over 1gb on a 900 line but my upload speeds are only 15/20mbs

I also had some slight jitter on black ops 7, rang ee they said the router looked congested so cleared that and I have to say it does seem better but still does have a little amount of jitter every so often

They’ve since done a factory reset on the router but I’m still only getting 15mb on upload on Xbox, tried my sons Xbox to isolate a cable issue and that was the same, then tried a brand new cat 7 cable, same again. Different ports. Same again

I have the smart hub pro and I think it manages bandwidth automatically, but even when everything else isn’t being used it’s the same

I have a pc 2 Xboxes ( never used all together either ) and 2 phones and 4 tablets that ain’t ever used together. At anyone time you might only really have 2/3 tablets and the 2 Xboxes being used if I’m online with my son

does this sound like a router issue as ee say it looks fine from there end and not really much else they can do?

is there a router out there I could plug straight into the white wall box that’ll manage things much better then the smart hub pro ? Ideally under 200 quid that I won’t have to worry about or is this the router doing its job and limiting the wired series x upload bandiwidth as it doesn’t use much to free up more for other devices, all other decides on wireless and upload is spot on even my sons who’s is the furthest away gets 200mb download and 60/70 upload on wireless.

There are many routers out there that'll replace the EE SH Pro. Asus & TP-Link are well thought of. Ensure they have at least a 1 Gig WAN port & at least 1 Gig LAN ports.

You won't be able to use your own router if you have EE TV or EE DV.

@Toonsoldier91 When you speed test on your PC connected are you getting the 900/110 speed range when testing? OR Openreach Package on Fibre for the Gig range is supplied at 1000/110 range to ensure that the speeds can be met! If the PC test is fine then don't worry the fast.com test can be very misleading at times, congestion is generally out on the 30 users for the fibre nothing at all you can do about it!

Use ookla speedtest.net but download the version for the pc as an app, the web versions can be not so good as they don't push data through for real testing!

Yes on 5/6ghz depending what one it connects to I get 800/900 down and 100 upload on pc

I’ve been looking at the be550 from Tp link. But I just want something that u can plug and play I know I’ll have to set it up to use ee

do you think I’ll get same/better performance from my own router as obviously the ee sh pro is designed to work well with ee

@Toonsoldier91 Then there is nothing wrong with that, you using anything special like the gaming mode IP whatever that is called, will come to me when not thinking about it!

Something just not set right on the Pro mode with the X-Box but bit weird that Ethernet is doing it!

EE does allow the use of 3rd-party routers. However they may only investigate any issues until you put the supplied EE router back. In Using & Configuring a Third Party Router you'll find everything you need to set up your router incl. the BB PPPoE creds. which are now the same as BT's.

EE TV & DV landline will not work with your 3rd-party router unless you put the EE router as 1st downstream from the ONT.

@Toonsoldier91 Are you using any off the EE Smart wireless Pro Units along with your EE Pro Router, Tp have not got any wifi 7 versions out yet but no doubt they are in the pipeline for Easy Mesh!

No literally on thing I done was change passwords. That’s it. Also didn’t use the boosters as I didn’t need them as every other device gets almost full speed all over the house

@Toonsoldier91 You can try then, only thing i would do is unplug the x-box ethernet cable stick a laptop PC on that connection and speed test that cable all the way back to the Router, the fact you are getting the other speed test so high is real strange!

@Toonsoldier91 I have nothing against Tp link, use there Powerline with no issues, installed a couple of deco mesh systems and to be honest they are just so poor, but i am a 100% Asus user and my powerline is not doing really anything hanging off it!

I think I’d use pretty much anything Aslong as it was reliable and not too expensive 200 or below. Do you think a good quality router would actually out perform the smart hub pro for signal strength etc ?

@Toonsoldier91 Cannot say that with any definitive answer to power/speed or stability one against the other, signal strength is a device regulated but some work better than others in a like for like situation, you just need to work out the pro's/cons as one against the other, moving third party you have FULL control over what you do with the Router and it is not going to be restricted possibly like the EE one can be! Going to wait to see what your other speed is like, just now it's all pointing to a x-box issue to be sorted out!

You are ruling out Asus with your £200 or less as a like/like type so forget about them!

You don't mean that! It's WiFi7 which provides 2.4, 5 & 6 GHz bands just like SH Pro.

Sorry yes not 7ghz I ment 6ghz doesn’t that make it a wifi 7 box ?
