Hi there!

I’m trying to set up my Google Nest Wifi Pro, but I’m having trouble with the settings. It’s asking for some information, and after checking a few articles, I found that the default PPPoE password might be "BT" or empty. However, when I checked my hub’s admin settings, it said, “The password is not displayed for security reasons.”

What I’m hoping to do is remove the EE Smart Router entirely and connect the Google Nest Wifi Pro directly to my Openreach GPON terminal. I really need help with the correct setup with the WAN settings.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hi @gossipgirl

Easiest way is to turn off WiFi on your EE router and connect your Google router to the ethernet port.

Alternatively have you checked here: https://ee.co.uk/help/broadband/getting-started/using-and-configuring-a-third-party-router

Hi! I had a look at that article, but I’d rather connect my Google Nest Wifi Pro directly to the modem and stop using the EE Smart Hub. I’m just not sure how to find the right PPPoE/WAN settings (stuff from the screenshot) to get it working. Any help would be great.

See if the link below gets you started.

What is Nest Wifi Pro? - Google Nest Help

And all you need is this bit below.

Third-party router settings

The settings you need depends on the type of broadband connection you have. Some of these terms can vary slightly from router to router. If in doubt, try leaving any settings you don’t recognise as their default values.

If you’re using an EE or BT provided hub, then it will arrive pre-configured with the correct settings and you don’t need to manually configure anything.

If you're having problems connecting your EE or BT hub, then take a look at how you can fix your home broadband connection.

Full FibreConnection type: Point-to-Point Protocol over ethernet (PPPoE)

Broadband username or login name:

bthomehub@btbroadband.com

Broadband password:

BT (or leave blank)

Authentication:

CHAP

DNS:

Auto or Obtain from ISP (we'll automatically provide these when you connect)

But for working directly with the ONT the WAN setting needs to be PPOE, with the user name you have. Your Nest may need a password to be set, but EE broadband will work without it’

Just took my EE router out of the chain and connected a Nest WiFi Pro router direct to the ONT - In the Google Home app I factory reset the Nest devices, changed the WAN setting to PPPoE then set the username to bthomehub@btbroadband.com and a password was mandatory so I used BT - worked a charm. Thanks all.

Thanks 🙂 - I set up the Nest WiFi (non Pro) node and changed it to PPoE but it didn’t ever pick up off the ONT connection. The EE router is off at that point, using the same details. EE support just advised bridge mode but I want to bypass it entirely. Given my lack of success, I may need to look at a different solution
