Will Fibre 50 cap my upload speed?

I'm moving from NOW to EE, and the fastest option available to me was Fibre 50 (no doubt due to my download speeds being below 50Mbps, whereas the rest of the properties around me in the cul de sac have significantly faster speeds).

However, my typical upload speeds are about 12Mbps. Am I about to be capped at 9Mbps that's stated for Fibre 50?

I phoned EE and went round houses basically, and I got told by more than one operator that I can always leave within 14 days!

In addition, I was latterly passed to someone in Sales who called me "Mr David" and did not have an accent from the UK & Ireland. I thought all EE call centres are no longer abroad - it doesn't mean that the operator wasn't abroad, but it sure seemed like it.

I just called EE asking for help with a matter, and I received an email with the following text:

None of the above was discussed on the call at all. What's going on please?

Yes, yes, I realise that this is a public form, but I'm wondering if this is typical.

I was discussing the possibility of Fibre 50 capping my FTTC connection in that my upload speed could do down from 12Mbps with NOW to 9Mbps with EE (I only have had the Fibre 50 option when taking out an EE contract).

There was no discussion of anything else.

Getting the aforementioned email from BT/EE was rather unexpected.

@Dabmonger : You were exploring with EE about moving your 50 Meg FTTC from NOW to EE & they're just nicely offering to ring you back when you'll be ready.

Fibre 50 should give up to 20 Meg Upload.

What does BT Wholesale Broadband Availability Checker estimate for your phone number? Post the whole table and the line above it, blanking out your phone number. If it doesn't recognise your phone number or you don't have one, use the Address Checker.

Hi. I had to enter the UPRN. Is there a way to copy the table, or just take a screenshot?

It's the Blairgowrie exchange, cabinet B.

I personally get 46Mbps max (all the other houses in my postcode get considerably faster download speeds), and I get 12Mbps max upload.

The Fiber 50 option generically states an upload speed of 9Mbps, with Fiber 73/67 stating an upload speed of 18Mbps. I was reading these as being maximums, hence meaning that I would be capped wrt upload speed.

My personal download speed guarantee is given as 38Mbps.

I was wondering if there was way to copy the table directly, but I'm enclosing a couple of screenshots, one of the table, and one of the fiber packages available for my property. Please note that all the other properties in my postcode have the Fiber 73/67 option.

So, I'm wondering if my 12 Mbps up will be capped at 9 Mbps when all goes live on the 23rd.

Actually, I purchased EE a couple of days ago, and was phoning tonight asking about what upload speed I should be getting on Fiber 50.

Shortly after the call, I received that email text above. There was absolutely no talk about add-ons.

That's OK, I can see the Fibre 50 image.

Fibre 50 will be capped at 10 Meg upload. 9 Meg is its average over all EE users. I knew Fibre 37 had upload capped at 10 Meg & Fibre 74 had upload capped at 20 Meg & I wrongly thought Fibre 50 was like Fibre 74. Sorry!

From the BT Checker I'm surprised that EE is not offering you Fibre 74.

That's rather annoying that not only do I receive significantly lower speeds than my postcode neighbours, I'm only offered the Fiber 50 option, which will lead to capped upload speeds.

I mean, I've never ever had FTTC broadband that's been capped.

Going with BT (same company basically I know) would not have resulted in this issue, but there was no way to add a calls package.

Staying with NOW was an impossibility, as the router no longer is receiving updates.

Going to Sky from NOW (same company basically I know) would mean changing my phone number.

Annoying.

The caps on all plans are hard caps. The estimates are .. well. estimates.

The usual 3 plans for FTTC are usually capped at 80/20, 55/10 & 40/10 Megs Down/Up. The corresponding estimates of average Download over their users by various ISPs are approx. 74, 50 & 37 Meg. These nos. are often used in their plan titles.

They'll be aware that my download speed maxes at about 46.

And why was I speaking to someone who sounded very much like they don't live in the UK & Ireland? Someone with a foreign accent and calling me "Mr David" suggests a foreign call centre IMO, and not a "foreigner" living here.

I'm very much used to hard caps in Edinburgh (Telewest then Virgin) and in Poland.

As for estimates, after 50 mins on the phone with EE, I was getting told that the Fiber 50 upload speed of 9 Mbps is an estimate, and not a cap. Even the download speeds are apparently not capped. I therefore asked repeatedly, why would someone in that case chose Fiber 73 when they could choose Fiber 50 for a slightly cheaper monthly fee?!

As for the Fiber 67/73/74 etc, I see all these numbers in EE texts. Eg the Fiber 73 would appear to be called Fiber 67 at checkout.

I just saw phone number, some other number and UPRN. I had to search for my UPRN.
