Leaving EE broadband

Hello,

My EE broadband contracts last day is tomorrow (23rd July), I'm on old broadband deal getting there 144mbps fttc service. If I stay with them on the current speed the cost will go from £34 to £44 with a deal or £47 without but will go up again after 1 year.

So anyway planning on moving to another provider who all be it at a slower speed will be cheaper @ £21.

My questions are can I just order now with my new provider with no leaving fee from EE?

Will I need to contact EE?

Do EE send out a box etc to send the router back in and do I need to include all cables or will it just be ok to send the power cable and router ?*

Lastly as I had to have a new phone socket face plate put on to allow me to have 144mbps (g.fast) will this be a problem going down a speed to I'm guessing a non g.fast service?

* Cables are behind a heavy TV unit so I'd rather minimise what I need to do

@wy2k you won't need to tell EE if you are moving to a supplier that also uses the same Openreach line.

Unfortunatley G Fas is being withdrawn, you could keep it if staying with the same supplier, but at that extra cost you mention.

No need to change the phone socket, it will still work with the slower presumable 80Mbps SOGEA service you are moving to. (FTTC without the phone element).

Guessing you are on a legacy contract, so there may be a few days to pay for after you move, but otherwise once the final bill is produced you should get a refund. Bills are produced in advance, so you will have to pay, but don't cancel the Direct Debit and the refund will get paid back.

Thank you. I'm guessing EE would send me out a means to return the router in?

If I switch provider, when would my EE broadband go dead and my new one go live,guessing I would pay EE for broadband while I'm between providers?

@wy2k As @Mustrum has pointed out you may not even get anyone to take you on with a G.Fast connection so you do need to go shopping to see what you can get!

@wy2k yes EE should send you info on how to return the router and power supply, don't worry about other cables.

Your new supplier will tell EE when they indent to take over your line. Typically it will stop in the early hours and the new supplier will go live in the morning, although it could be done any time up until midnight.

The white Smart Router, which is the only EE router that does G,Fast , is yours to keep & EE won't be asking for it back.

Oh really why's that then I'm guessing because they're moving on to offering full fibre only ?

Would I even be able to use it with another provider e.g. sky on a non g.fast service fttc broadband ?

I wonder if it's any better than sky's router?

Either way I'll be changing my network name and password back to the one used with EE,so I don't have to change my network details on all devices (smart plugs are a pain to setup again)

@wy2k Will be down to the age, the old router has well paid for itself by now! Sky also only have ONE G.Fast hub and that is the SR204 version, Wi-Fi 5 device that's it!

Well been with we since 2023. I believe the router sky provide for fttc broadband is a 2019 model or I pay an extra £4 for sky max I can get the latest model what uses WiFi 6 instead of 5

Not sure it's worth it?

@wy2k Sky Max does not support G.Fast so you will need to fold back to a 80/20 split!

It's worthless to them but they will put it to waste if you ask them. They just won't be demanding it back.

It will also work on ADSL & VDSL FTTC but whether the format of the PPPoE creds will fit with Sky I wouldn't know,

So no point keeping the EE router if they don't request it back, wouldn't work anyway.

What does 80/20 split mean 80 download 20 upload?

Well that's it placed my order to move provider.

But just out of interest why did EE wait for my cancellation to go through before offering me a price of £29 to stay on the service I'm leaving?! which is £15 better than there initial renewal offer pity they didn't start at that price I might of stayed 🙄.

Hypothetically, is it too late take the offer now what would happen with the order I just placed?

@wy2k it is probably not too late, you would need to contact the other supplier and cancel your order, and not het your deposit refunded.

But staying on G Fast is limited, you can't get it elsewhere and it will be totally withdrawn sooner or later.

So I made the right call anyway, and the router I'm getting with sky will work with fttp when/if it comes to my block of flats (rest of the streets around me have it) . 😀
