What makes you think WPA3 stops WPS?

What happens when you press the WPS button on the side?

The complete post would have been a lot more helpful. @cheshirecheese1 the response below was in answer to a question about connecting a printer. Guess it depends on what you want to use WPS for, but it may work for you.

What Hub are you using? If it's a Smart Hub Plus/Pro, then I would recommend: -

Factory reset the Printer or reset network settings on the Printer
Factory reset the hub by inserting something into the reset pinhole at the rear until the LED goes green and it reboots
When the hub comes back up, access the Hub Manager at 192.168.1.254 and navigate to Advanced > Wireless > Compatible WiFi tab
Enable Compatible WiFi, choose a name/password for the Compatible network, leave the 5GHz option disabled and save the changes
Remain on this page and initiate WPS pairing journey from the printer
There is a WPS button on the page for the Compatible WiFi network. Click this (rather than the button on the hub itself) to complete the pairing with the printer

With a bit of luck, everything should now be connected?

WPS relies on pre-shared-key (PSK) exchange which WPA3-Personal does not support. WPA3 uses something called Simultaneous Authentication of Equals (SAE) instead.

The WPS equivalent for WPA3 is something called Easy Connect which involves scanning QR codes and suchlike.

In the hub manager the WPS button is set to off and can not be activated because the security is set to WPA3. One suggestion is to set the security to WPA3 Transitional.

Hey @cheshirecheese1.

I've had a double check on this one and switching over to WPA-Transitional should definitely allow you to enable WPS, and you should see the option for switching to this or WPA-2 on the same screen in the Hub Manager.

Yes you are correct Peter. I have found the the area on the Hub manager you described but have hesitated to make the change as a warning was displayed saying I would have to restart the hub and might lose existing device connection and have to reconnect everything. Cheers

Whilst restarting the hub as part of this may require your devices to reconnect again at that particular moment, you're not seeing any change to the SSID or connection key, so this should happen again automatically.

@cheshirecheese1 Before ALL the FW upgrades and forced status you could do some down grading on Routers to have WPA2-PSK as the method for wireless encryption but seems now if you did not have it set before then your choice will be to set the Comp network or live with and fight the Main Network on WPA3-T which may not work with all devices.

I was just wondering why a factory reset of both the hub and printer would be required in this case?

And in the case of connecting a DVA with a smart hub plus, does pressing the WPS START button in the GUI under Compatible WiFi lead to the exact same process as physically pressing the WPS button on the side of the hub?

Or is the WPS button on the hub using a hybrid WPA2/WPA3-Personal setting for the DVA, and could this work for other devices too?

It would seem that pressing WPS Start in Compatible WiFi in the GUI is the same as physically pressing the WPS button when connecting a DVA to the hub. I'll give it a go as I'm interested 🙂
