Thought I would ask a question, not sure if possible.

So I have signed up with EE for the 1.6gbps and Smart Hub Pro Wifi 7.

Initially due to install this week, but got a new date of 27th June. Wifi is weak, so the fact Im getting a Smart Wifi Pro device is fantastic and was hoping there was a way I can connect the Smart Hub Pro to the Sky FTTP or Sky Router and utilise the Wifi 7 and Smart Wifi Pro while I wait for the Engineer to come out and change my ONT?

You certainly can't directly connect the EE SH Pro to the ONT for Sky FTTP BB cuz its PPPoE BB creds are hardcoded to EE/BT's & so can't match Sky's. You might be able to put it as an AP on the Sky router.

Was thinking that, as don’t want to mess with the SHP, would it be a case of connecting it to the sky router with the port that would usually go to the ONT or do you reckon there would be more to it?

Connecting it to the WAN port won’t work, (unless it is configured as a LAN port by default). They need to be connected LAN to LAN. You also can’t have two DHCPs operating at the same time without creating a ‘split-scope’, so turn off its DHCP and give it a static address outside the range the Sky hub is using. By default, the Sky hub uses 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.254, if memory serves. That means you may have to adjust the range the Sky hub is currently using to something like 192.168.0.250 and give the SHP 192.168.0.251

Really tempted to give it a shot to try and use the Sky Router as a connection hub and the EE Smart Hub Pro and Smart Wifi Pro to dish out the Wifi... anyone able to give me any instructions on best way? Or would the recommendation be just leave as be until its activated?

If I did and changed settings, would a factory reset on the Hub Pro revert it to the authentication details for my EE connection when it goes live? or would they need reprogrammed?

I did say how to do it above. I’m not familiar with the hub you are talking about, so I can’t give specific instructions, but the technique is essentially generic and how you do it with any third-party router. Basically, you give it static address in your network, turn everything off except the Wi-Fi and then connect them LAN port to LAN port. (You turn everything else off as you can’t have two actual routers and DHCPs in a network – they fight).

It is also usually possible to export a backup configuration file before you do this, then just reimport it when you want to go back to how it was.

I believe Sky hubs use 192.168.0.1 as their IP. If so...

Power up the Smart Hub Pro, connect something to it, log into the GUI at 192.168.1.254 and navigate to Advanced > Network > Configuration

Change the IP address of the Pro to an IP address within the same subnet as your Sky Hub (but preferably outside of its DHCP range). Don't know what the DHCP range of the Sky hubs is but let's say you use 192.168.0.100

Disable DHCP on the Pro

Save the changes and power the Pro off

Connect the Pro to the Sky hub using an Ethernet cable plugged into LAN ports at both ends

Power the Pro up, log into the Sky hub and disable the Wi-Fi

All being well you can now connect to the Pro Wi-Fi network and have Internet access

Note, to access the Pro settings, you will now need to use the 192.168.0.100 address, instead of 192.168.1.254

Also note, the Pro will obnoxiously flash its lights at you because it expects to be the device that's doing the Internet connectivity

To revert everything when the EE line is active then just factory reset the EE hub by inserting something into the pinhole at the rear of the device until the LED flashes green.

A fair bit of hassle really and you won't be able to use any of the EE app features etc. I'd personally wait.
