topic 1.6gbps in Broadband & Landline

Hi all currently out of contract with BT on a Full Fibre 900 package, was looking to switch over to the EE 1.6gbps package with the new WiFi 7 router.
However the sales rep told me I'm unable to order this as I'm a BT customer and it's only available to new customers moving from other providers.
Is this correct? Seems a bit crazy offering services to new customers rather than loyal customers who've been with EE or BT for years.
Anyone else could shed any light I'd be very grateful.

@mattp1986 It's the BT/EE move accounts, computer say's NO to getting what you want. 900Mb/s package and that is it...

@mattp1986 It is an unfortunate practice and ONE that frustrates and infuriates customers like yourself... Some have managed to get what they desire, but if you wished take the 900mb/s and at a later date upgrade to the one off the upper two packages that are offered or not getting the wi-fi 7 addon without paying the extra for it, but also if the TV or/and DV options are not sorted they also throw the spanners in the works....

Yeah seems a little odd for sure, wonder if it requires an openreach engineer to install any extra equipment or something, that would probably explain why they are only offering it to new customers to stop the costs spiralling.

Unfortunately there are no other providers offering that speed in my area so may have to just take a 900mb package and try to get an upgrade later

@mattp1986 The change is the ONT modem that you have for the Fibre/Router connection, there are two types, one has a 1Gb/s NIC interface and the other has a 2.5Gb/s, SO it may be a swap out one to the other, and just not known what you have currently... Then all the other if what's also.... The Pro is good full off speed, the Plus gets you there wan wise and wi-fi, but the Ethernet ports are all 1Gb/s so it falls down at that point.

Ah I see, will have to check my socket and see what type I have, if there's a way of telling the difference of course lol

I have the one with the yellow ethernet socket so it's a 1gb LAN max by the looks of it lol

@mattp1986 At least you are aware now that it is required to be replaced as one off the items that needs must.
