Hi folks,

I've recently had full fibre installed to my home, I get over 900Mbps when connected EE Smart Hub Plus router, from my phone in the same room. But when I connect to the Orbi WiFi Mesh system (1 Router and 2 satellites), the speed drops to 600Mbps in the same room and drops even further upstairs to less than 200Mbps.

I have the Orbi Router connected to the EE Smart Hub, The 1st satellite about 15ft away in the Kitchen and the 2nd satellite up stairs in the room directly above the 1st satellite

Is there a setting I need to enable on the EE Hub???

I used to have a Three 5G Hub, connected to the Orbi system, and the speed was consistent all across the house and the garden, on all devices, and I can't figure out why?

Any help would be awesome! I've been trying to get support from Netgear for nearly a week now, and they can't seem to find a fix via the Orbi's UI and login window.

Do you know that you only need to use one and not both, or do you feel that it is way out off left field for you to do so?

See this link below but DO read the Using your own router with EE broadband for ALL off the exceptions.

How Do I Use My Own Router for EE Home Broadband? | Help | EE

I'll be honest, I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to this. I found this page: https://ee.co.uk/help/broadband/getting-started/using-and-configuring-a-third-party-router but I have no idea how to change the configure the settings to what it needs to be.

I know how to access the Orbi routers Web interface and I've messed around with some settings myself (port forwarding). Do you think Netgear will help me???

Right now, I use Orbi router and 2 satellites to try and get a consistent speed all over the house, but it's not working with the EE Hub. Even if I'm just connected to only the EE Hub, upstairs I only get around 50Mbps down and up

@DarkShigeru The only part that you need is the FF settings for the orbi, using PPPoE control the username and the password, i am not 100% sure if it can all be done from the ORBI app, but you can try.

First power off the EE Router and disconnect from your ONT the cable that goes to the EE Router wan port, that is now going to plug into the ORBI Wan port on the MASTER orbi router module. If you can just get to the wan settings on the orbi, needs to be setup as a ROUTER, pppoe control and the user/password from the link.

If not able to do so, you may wish to just reset all and try using the orbi app to set it up and step through the options. HTH

NO landline, EE TV etc etc, all explained on the link so read that closely......

Forget EE for any help, and netgear may be able to but you do have to get the ORBI on the BB for them to assist so you may have to go back to square 1 with connected as before. All your choice.

@DarkShigeru Having the EE and Orbi running together can cause issues not least WiFi clashes.

That said there are plenty of articles on the Netgear site on how to set up your Orbi directly to the Openreach ONT.

This from one:

Thanks, I was kinda hoping since the connection from the wall is ethernet, I could connect it directly to the ethernet port on the Orbi?

Yes, you should be able to connect Orbi directly to the FTTP box and use Orbi as your main router. You just then need to configure PPPoE for internet access in Orbi,

Please use the GUI to go to >> ADVANCED >> Setup >> Internet Setup, choose Yes to using password for internet settings, select PPPoE for "Intenet Service Provider" and set the username to bthomehub@btbroadband.com and leave the password blank (or check this information with BT).

Good luck.

One last question. Is there any benefit in enabling the "Support PPPoE-passthrough?

No, that is not required.

However from you settings, you may want to :

1. Tick the Respond to ping on the internet port - if you want the ThinkBroadband Quality Monitor to keep an eye on how your broadband is doing.

2. Change the MTU to 1492.

Otherwise, just link the other Orbis in the best position for the best WiFi signal around the property.

Thanks for coming back and letting us know how you got on.
