Hi all.

Please bear with me as I'm not tech savvy but I would like to clarify some points and have my queries answered before I full commit to moving from BT to EE, as my contract is shortly coming to an end. I have spoken with a couple of EE guides who seem to give conflicting information.

I live rurally and only have fibre to the cabinet. Top upload speeds are in the 40's mbps. I'm currently on BT Fibre 2 (Smart 2 hub) with a BT black extender disc. I live in an old stone built bungalow, so wifi is pretty dire. I have the hub plugged into my pc (ethernet cable) and the extender disc in a central hall which works adequately to get wifi into the other rooms. I do not have the option of running ethernet cables around the bungalow.

EE are offering me Fibre 50 Essentials and I have been advised that I have to send my BT Smart hub 2 back, but can keep the BT black extender disc. However, I have read (on this site) that the disc will not work with the EE Smart hub Plus that EE say I must have. I guess I may have to use their Smart wifi Plus extender/s - but are they any good?.

I am concerned that I will have wifi coverage issues as I've read that the EE Smart Hub Plus, although a newer hub with more advanced management options, actually has a weaker wifi signal. The distance from the router to the extender position is 2 rooms away, with solid walls between. If this is the case, where do I go from there as I need wifi coverage in all our rooms?

Would the purchase of a mesh system like the TP Link Deco M9 Plus be sure to solve any wifi issues for me and would it be easy to connect/compatible as I have no experience with this kind of thing.

Would I be able to cancel the EE contract if I couldn't get sufficient wi fi coverage/speeds.

I feel very glum that I feel I'm having to move to an inferior set up with EE, when BT has worked well for me. But, as you know, BT are only wanting business customers going forward.

I would really appreciate any help or advice you could give me.

Ps there is an option that I could get full fibre with Zzoomm, but a little daunted by new wiring around the bungalow which I really don't want - maybe that's the route I will have to take?

@Vaana First of all the black extenders will not work with the EE Router.

If you are happy with your current set up, ask/tell BT/EE that you need to keep the current router and extender, others have done the same.

The M9 may be overkill, and as you are on an FTCC service, and rouer with built in DSL nodem and mesh capabilty could be a better way to go, TP Link and Asus models come to mind.

If you do go down the EE Router option, watch out for extra costs for WiFi extenders, and Digital Voice/TV?

HTH
