EE Smart Hub Pro With BT Broadband

Apologies if this post is a little stupid. I’m not very tech savvy.

My BT Home Hub 2 is 6 years old and looks a mess so I bought a EE Smart Hub Pro on Vinted. The hub is brand new and arrived with security seal intact.

Online forums suggest the EE Smart Hub Pro should work with my basic BT broadband package.

BT wouldn’t tell me if it would or would not work before I bought it. It’s surely a simple technical question as EE broadband is powered by BT.

I decided to buy the hub and see if it would work. It doesn’t. Green light on power-up followed by constant flashing orange light which means no connection.

I would be immensely grateful for any advice.

Do I need to adjust any of the hub settings as my current BT broadband package is only basic broadband and the new hub is set up for the higher end full broadband packages.

What do you mean by "basic broadband". Is it FTTC (Fibre to the Cabinet) & then copper to a phone socket in the house or even ADSL? Do you get your BB from a phone socket? If so, the SH Pro is no good for you. It doesn't even contain a modem or a DSL port to connect to the phone socket. How on earth did you connect it up in the 1st place? Anybody, even BT or EE, could've told you that.

@jamesroebuck which BT Broadband package do you have?

The Smart Hub Pro should work on any of the Full Fibre services, but not if your broadband is still via your phone line. Also without the EE App you would have limited control of the router.

Thanks for your help. I’m on BT Home Essentials which is a plan for people on low income and it does come through my phone line. At least now I know it won’t work. I only paid £50.00 for the EE Smart Hub Pro and they sell for £100.00 on eBay so I thought it was worth a try and if it didn’t work I’d sell it on. James

The Smart Hub 2 is still ideal for your service, but watch out with some of the newer EE Routers and not all have a DSL connection which is what you need, plus more and more need an App these days.
