Can somebody please enlighten me. I have to update my broadband to full fibre. BT and Plusnet both say it would be provided by EE so even though I register through one of these, would I actually become an EE customer and have to deal directly with them and say goodbye to my existing supplier?

Why is it you can't get FF from PN? They are offering FF up to FF 900 for £40.

However it comes with no phone line. So if you currently have a landline with PN with your ADSL or FTTC that would be the reason they are saying that you need to move to EE.

I worked at Plusnet for 20 years off and on. last time I was there (2023) retentions and sales were told to upsell to EE when FTTP was available, Or if someone wanted to keep the Digital Voice. So just as @XRaySpeX says.

Also the deals can be a bit sweeter if you agree to go to EE. We were often given discounts to dish out which came outside of the "up to £25 per customer" good will we had as Technical Agents. But I often did sales too

Agreed. And I spent the last 4 months working there taking complaint after complaint because agents had NOT told people who were in a stop sell that moving from FTTC to FTTP would cancel their landlines and I dealt with quite a few Telecare and pendant customers, and of course there is no going back once it's been done. Policy was changed as a result of my feedback across the whole BT Group based on the calls I took!

Eventually PN and BT are going to be swallowed up and it will all be just EE (people will no doubt disagree) . But there were briefings going around when I was there stating so.. And each month we would get a "wind down" circulation about what was being taken away next.

I recall the day, back in 2007 when we were all sat down and told BT were buying Plusnet and Metronet. The first thing they did was close Metronet, something I was a part of in many ways. Oh how my heart sunk that day. 😞

No this was purely Agent error. It was resolved and the agent was let go If I remember correctly. I have once managed to get a PSTN re instated. I also had many a call with Engineers who had come to do FTTC/FTTP and noted the Landline was needed. My fault I worked on the PN COT team for fun when I was not doing my normal role.

Thank you so much for your reply. It’s been v helpful in helping make up my mind whether to continue with the switch or stay with PN. You saying there’s no going back has made me decide to stick with the switch to EE and see how it goes. If I regret the move I can go back to PN and sacrifice my landline but if I stay with PN and realise down the line I miss my landline I’m stuffed. My husband whose nearly 80 is not great with keeping his mobile on him or charged so when I’m out and need to contact him I have more luck with the landline! Right decision? 🙂
