So I'm continuing to investigate the lag spikes I seem to be getting on my internet while gaming despite the fact its supposedly a fast 900 mb FTTP service. I've discovered via Wireshark that the router seems to be flooding SSDP and ARP messages onto my local network so much so that it amounts to 50% of the network traffic on my gaming PC.

Is there anyone on here who has a smart hub plus and Wireshark that could look at what their router does? I'm wondering is there's a problem with my router specifically or if this behaviour is just a feature/bug in the routers firmware?

I haven't got another router available but the messaging does look strange because I can see devices responding to the ARP request only for the request to go out again a few seconds later.

The network isn't that complicated and I've checked for IP conflicts etc so I suspect the router but it would be useful if someone could confirm what the usual behaviour is for this model.

Have you got an EE TV Pro? If so try unplugging it and test again. BT forum post at some point noted that box floods the network sometimes.

I haven't got that equipment but it's a good thought. I've been disconnecting devices one at a time but I'll need to finish that tomorrow. What I can say is that all flooding messages are originating from the router.

In the end I've managed to solve the problem. I called EE customer support who weren't able to talk to anything other than Wi-Fi signal strength which isn't the problem but they of course wanted to sell me some range extenders. In the end I bit the bullet and bought a new router and now gaming is smooth, network traffic is normal and web browsing is much more snappy. I was also having problems with the smart features on an old TV which I put down to its age but which are now gone.

Seems to me, despite the decent specs on the EE Smart Hub re throughput and wireless signal, the internals just cant handle the requirements of a more busy network that has time critical traffic.

I got a TP-Link AXE75. Seems to be a good deal as its available with some good discounts at the moment and it certainly appears to do the job well.
