Setting Up A NAS

Help required please.

I am trying to set a NAS and have been referring to an online video which outlines a method.

I have obtained my Gateway ip address but when entered into the Run command (prefixed with \\)

I am told that it is not available. The router is IPv6 enabled but the DNS is showing IPV4 only.

My new PC is wifi 6 enabled.

The EE Hub is showing all my connected devices correctly including the PC.

Info/links would be appreciated.

What 'Run' command? Do you mean putting the router's IP, http://192.168.1.254, into Windows' Run command? That should work by calling up your default browser. You obviously got in some other way, probably just using a browser.

Which EE BB plan are you on including its speed? What EE router do you have (read its label or post a pix)?

@RogerJR which NAS and router do you have?

Normally if your NAS is set to use DHCP the other settings will be automatically applied. This saves you changing things, or even being locked out of the NAS if you change ISP's.

I used Powershell to obtain my gateway ip and then typed that in the run command. Yes, I accessed my router by using a browser to see if there was anything obvious I should be doing.

I am on full fibre 150 plan and router is Smart Hub SH31B.

USB port on what? The USB port on the SH+ is not user-operable.

@RogerJR that is not a NAS and there has been lots of posts over the years. This article on the BT forum may help you, but really the router USB port is ok as a charging point, but not as a point of access.

It seems I got my NAS and Network Drives terminology mixed up and I will try the setup as per the BT link.

Much appreciate the helpful and quick responses. Saved me a lot of hassle trying to do something that isn`t possible.👍

@RogerJR make sure you read about and understand the security warnings of using SMB1.

@Mustrum : There is no SMB1 involved for the EE SH+. That was for the BT SH2. You can't connect a drive to the SH+'s USB like you can with the BT SH2.
