topic Can't avoid double NAT with own router and DV in Broadband & Landline

Hi All,

I have looked through the EE forums but find myself in a bit of a corner so I'm hoping someone can help. Here is my setup:

1) Digital Voice comes through my EE router, as far as I can work out this means I cannot remove the EE router.

2) I have a Unifi network including a firewall which I have connected the the EE router DMZ with a fixed IP address. I did this because the EE router does not support bridge mode.

My network has an OpenVPN server in my network on port 1194. I would have expected that all traffic rejected by the EE firewall would arrive at the DMZ and therefore my firewall would just need to forward port 1194, but even though my connection is to the EE router DMZ I still have to have a rule to forward port 1194 to my firewall and my firewall needs to forward again. I have used tracert and I can see the double NAT.

This causes a problem with our XBox(s) as they are in different parts of the house and I cannot connect then directly to the EE router to avoid my firewall (which I do want to keep anyway).

Has anyone got any ideas on how to get around this. I have seen of the forums people moaning about the EE router. Like many people now days I work from home and need this stuff to work. Basic a requirements:

Keep digital voice

Use my own firewall (which is Unifi)

No double NAT

Any help appreciated 🙂

Were it me, I would move my phone number to a VOIP supplier, and connect my router direct to the ONT - assuming you are on Full Fibre, or use a modem if not.

HTH
