Good Afternoon,

We recently had the 'Fibre 900 WiFi 7 package installed into our home roughly 3 weeks ago. Since then we have had nothing but problems. We lost internet within the first day & had an engineer come our refit out fibre line due to the original engineer incorrectly laying the cable to our house. That issue is now fixed and we have a steady 900+ Mb/s coming into our home.

However since the very beginning we have had an issue where a couple devices (PC's) have suffered from very unstable WiFi. The speeds range from the Kb/s to 250MB/s with the average between 2MB/s - 20MB/s. One of the PC's has now also developed an issue where the WiFi keeps connecting then disconnecting over and over again, which was not happening originally.

It appears that the booster is causing the issue via WiFi, with the Booster (Smart Wifi Pro) turned off we have stable high speeds on all devices. If the booster is connected via ethernet into ether of the PC's then we receive the full 900+ Mb/s, it only seems to be via the WiFi signal that we have the issue.

We have moved the booster to several areas around the house, resetting both the 'Smart Hub Pro' router & the booster multiple times along with pairing the devices each time. Non of these things have helped.

We contacted EE couple days ago and they said that they have not heard of this issue before & they were going to send a link though for us to book a time with a EE Tech member (this link never came though). Before we phone back up again tomorrow afternoon i thought it might be a good idea to ask here & see if anyone has heard of this problem, hopefully with a fix.

If anyone has any ideas or questions then it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
-Owen

Hi OWH

Welcome to the forum.

Several users have reported WIFI issues with the new Smart WIFI Pro booster.

If you are getting a strong signal to all your devices without it why not just not use it?

There is no need to reset or re-pair the booster if you are simply moving it to another location within your home.

Hope this helps

I have had similar issues, tbh wishing I had never switched. I am nearly 3 weeks also, they have changed the ONT box, router and now they are sending a new WiFi pro out. Another thing is my Blink camera system is now offline and will not connect no matter how many times I try. **bleep** poor from EE

Yeah signal strength for both the devices that are suffering from unstable speed are strong. It definitely is t signal strength that’s the issue.
I am aware that I shouldn’t need to reset and pair the router & booster every time.
I initially didn’t bother, however after i wasn’t having any luck I started to reset and pair with each move hoping it would help.

Well this doesn’t fill me with confidence. I have also read a few posts on the EE forum who have had similar issues to me and you. The only 2 solutions that I have seen have been cancelling the EE contract or turning off the booster.

We very well might cancel our contract as we have a few days left to do so. The other option of disabling the booster, however this is not an option for us as we need it to get signal to a ‘black spot’ within our property.

We are going to phone EE tomorrow and see what they say. If they provide 2 extra boosters then it would fix our issue, however I do not believe we should pay for those extra boosters as it’s a fault seemingly with EE hardware.

Hi OWH

Has this matter been resolved?

I have exactly the same problem. Spent hours with EE customer services and 3 engineer visits, still experiencing the same problems

the router/hub on its own works fine with 900mbps but does not reach everywhere in the house. Plus we have many devices connected. So we have 3 boosters which intermittently drag down the performance from 2-80mbps when wirelessly connected. With wired connections, the boosters are giving out 250mbps but again intermittently can go off line totally

i get different causes explained by each engineer and am told I need new boosters or need to downgrade the router/hub but EE have failed to send and close the case each time

i am convinced there are underlying technology problems with equipment as I assume the line and exchange equipment are the same when we had a more reliable service with BT

i wish I had not ‘upgraded’ to WiFi 7

so frustrated

Thanks for coming to the community.

As you have continued to have slow WiFi since the last engineer visit, I would suggest getting back in touch with our Broadband tech guides. Or, if you would like to see what next steps are needed and discuss the experience you have had, you can open a complaint on the Make a Complaint page and one of the team will get in touch.

Same issue here - really flaky WiFi at times with a few devices

last 8 weeks or so

speed test is good, signal strong but booster devices hit and miss - quite often it can reboot and have yellow light as it updates but this is not linked to timing of issues. New iPhones on latest iOS certainly an issue, though that may be an Apple problem

Sky box put on power line and sometimes can be slow / unresponsive

upstairs sky box on WiFi can struggle with low quality streaming even thought full signal and about 10 m away from main router

bought another switch to put more items into Ethernet - not helped yet

@My7b Is it also the EE Pro system that you have and are using, any smart wi-fi Pro devices also in use, the sky units you have are the sky puck style streaming only devices or sky Q/mini box type? If using EE Pro the Ethernet switch did you purchase a 2.5Gb/s style or 1Gb/s. The EE Smart wireless devices rely on a good 6Ghz wireless backhaul for stability of the EE mesh that does mean that they will struggle to penetrate solid objects especially brick walls and foil lined plaster board.

https://ee.co.uk/help/broadband/fix-problem/fix-problems-with-smart-wifi

The help above has been updated with some more useful information regarding positioning etc.

Thanks @JimM11

yes EE WiFi 7 pro box plus booster

dint really need booster just added as an out door camera and garden coverage was poor so a smallish house and good strong connection between booster and router

sky box upstairs is the WiFi room box - very close to main router - sky Q mini

again mostly ok but last night was poor

speed test excellent so can’t blame bad incoming soeed

downstairs has sky Q with a power line to connect as wanted to try and reduce possible saturation on WiFi box and ensure wired connection

devices in room with router all Ethernet

two PlayStations just moved to Ethernet as this problem seemed to become more frequent - again they were close next room and one across so ran Ethernet under carpet / floor

small 5 port hub (smart unmanaged net gear ) connected to router - only 1gb only added after recent poor performance so could add the PlayStations - the router and booster Ethernet ports only 1gb anyway aren’t they - there is one port from memory ?

smoke alarms and a few other devices I’ve put into the 2.4ghz WiFi to again spread the load and also some devices can’t do WiFi 6 or 7

The booster I’ve noted quite a few times going amber though WiFi tends to work even when that happens as devices pickup the main router I guess

I’ve also now tried to put a few local devices near booster into Ethernet direct to see if it helps

i thought going all EE would be better and be easier to sort problems

in past I’ve always dumped the providers router and gone with my own boxes like Ruckus or Orbi

maybe I should dump the booster and put my own WiFi 7 booster in - I quite like the schedules and pause WiFi on the main router even if quite a slow clunky app - also means I would get support if I needed it but can’t face the hours on phone with a tech going over pre set script / sheet until we get to a good idea or suggestion

it’s so hard to replicate as well but seems to be a constant issue daily across all devices to varying degrees

nothing new added except items to improve Ethernet connections

ill see if I can look at the booster settings / connection , not really checked that

@My7b Below the linked info for the EE Pro hardware. All the ports on the Pro and i believe also the Extenders are 2.5Gb/s Ethernet port speed, has been said that they are picky about the Ethernet cables but not sure about that one. Have never used a Pro or it's Extenders. I still do all the old rules from back in the day but not sure what the layout you have done. PS5 1 and 2 into the switch, would have them on ports 1 and 2, port 5 running back from the switch to the Pro the 1Gb/s connection will keep them up at that speed.

Sky Q to the sky mini, have a look and make sure the Hotspot feature is not turned on, mini needs the Q to path, powerline is a good idea, if you can say which one you are using, there was a Q network storm that makes a Ethernet port get real busy at times, so worth the old Q off for a few hours when not using to see if the network stabilises..

If the Pro smart wireless is flicking back to orange indication sometimes then it may just be struggling to hold a decent connection back to the hub, understand what you are doing with it, and sure would be worth looking at if cable can be done between that and the Router, all faffing about but at the end off the day it is a pure wireless Mesh at present, so a speed test near the smart with it done twice, same place smart on results, and smart off results, compare them both. Mesh can bump heads so to speak with the Pro or other Extenders, it's all called CSMA/CA,, your not far away now and sure going in the right direction, when it wobbles take the step back!

https://ee.co.uk/help/broadband/getting-started/compare-our-range-of-broadband-hubs

I have the 17 Pro Max and have also had issues at times with Wi-Fi, but
it’s definitely an Apple problem which should be solved with the next major
IOS update.
