I have just been on the phone requesting an upgrade from my existing 900mb connection to the new 1.6GB and Wifi7.

I was surprised to be told that the new service is only available to new subscribers and it is not possible to upgrade.

Is this the way of progress? I am totally baffled as to why I am locked into the slower service. Can anyone shed a light as to why this is so?

I fell into that trap, because I saw the advert get 1.6gb for £69.99.
But when I tried to switch to, that BT wanted £800 for exit fees, even though they’re one & the same company. So I cancelled the order and still made the switch to EE.
So I took the same package I had with BT. Which is what you’ve got.
I do believe that if they can offer 1.6gb as a bribe, and at the price advertised to get customers from other providers, then it should be offered to ALL subscribers / customers.

I've just spent over an hour with two EE guides, as I was offered by Email about getting Wi-Fi7, and being offered an renewal / upgrade deal via my account on the EE website.

But the Wi-Fi7 router and extender only works with the latest mobile phones, i.e iPhone 16 and the Samsung equivalent, and the 1.6Gb broadband is still only available to NEW customers only.

He did say OR will upgrade everyone to 1.6Gb, but no time scale.

So the next email I get from EE, I will click the Unsubscribe link, so I can't be conned by empty promises as such.

Firstly that is totally wrong, the WiFi7 router will happily work with older devices, you will get max speeds on anything that has WiFi6.. What the new router also gives is full speed via the LAN ports.

Very doubtful Openreach will upgrade people without an order from those wanting to pay for faster speeds. Many will also be waiting for Openreach to roll out symetrical speeds.

You don't really missing too much...

1.6 Gbps package IS NOT COMPATIBLE with:

- EE TV

that's right, You will cease your EE TV if you transfer to 1.6 Gbps "busiest home broadband", whilst system it's not compatible with it. And You CAN'T order it, despite this is ongoing issue for more than year now... No solution, no timescale, no any clue when it will be possible...

- Landline / DV number

you will voluntarily cease your number on landline, whilst this package IS NOT compatible, and again, you can't even know when it will be, because EE don't have clue.

Trial ended at May 24 on OR level, but for EE this is hot baked, not ready product even in November 2024, full year after introducing it to customers...

Several part of WEB site will not working properly, just because You have 1.6 Gbps package... and they will even try to Gaslight You as it's all working well...

Yes, 1.6 Gbps package itself working absolutely amazing, I have not drop under 1.5 Gbps at any given time, and most of the time, my ONT speeds are up to 1.8 Gbps, maxing pottential of line and up to 114 Mbps up, also maxing values possible, with now 6ms loaded and 2 ms unloaded ping.

WiFi7 SH Pro working ok for 6 Ghz. You are able to get FULLspeed of your line to devices compatible with WiFi7. unfortunatelly, same can't be said abouot 5 Ghz band, where router stupidly default to absolutely rammed Channel 36, where intereference from at least 21 other routers around will make it unusable, or, in better way, to channel 100/104 where another 8+ networks are present at a moment (specific situation at mine) and only immediately after restar, it will choose channel 149, which in fact it's clear of traffic and interference, but for some stupid logic, it will dump it after EXACTLY 5 minuntes, and goes to Ch 36 or 100/104 and stay there...

However, as mentioned, on 6 Ghz, you will be able maxing possibilities and get on Wifi even 1.8 Gbps down and 116 up...

Thanks for that.

I can stop the marketing emails by clicking the unsubscribe link, to stop them getting through.

The only thing I can't stop are the same pushing adverts on my account page on My EE or on here.

I know they say hindsight is never a good thing, but the trouble I'm having to reduce some of my outgoings, as I thought move everything to one provider starting with the £69.99 1.6Gb broadband.

Just wished I'd stayed with BT (Halo 3+) Which gave me the same speed as now and no cheaper, Sky & O2.

For myself, move to EE was ok step, just not without troubles...

I would open complaint, whilst advisor clearly mislead you with 800 GBP early termnation fees, whilst these not apply when you moving from BT to EE. Yes, SMS still come with calculation, but they are WAIVED and you don't pay nothing. BT wants You to move to EE within next few years anyways, whilst BT = business, and EE want's You to move to them, whilst They still keep cusotomer under same company umbrella...

Ad to complain, as You want 1.6 Gbps package as it was proised to You, and mislead as it cant be done, despite it COUILD be done, without any penalty to leaving BT.

They should be able to follows...
