Full Fibre - 900mbps - Smart Hub Pro - PS5 performance

Hi,

Just paid the £10 a month extra to upgrade to the smart hub Pro and the connection speed is terrible compared to the old router. Im struggling to get 100mbps when doing a PS5 speed test. Ive had to hard wire the extra wifi hub to get a decent speed but that measn the upstairs now is poor. Any ideas or how to you go about getting an extra wifi hub? Thanks

EE guarantee that you will get at least 100 Meg in every room from Smart WiFi Pro extenders & if you're not they will send you up to 2 more. If you are not getting at least 100 Meg, you call CS & ask for them.

@Cambb69 What was your old router? Just for comparison details if you do not mind.

As @XRaySpeX has said, with your £10 addon of the EE Smarthub Pro, did you not also receive one EE Smartwifi device to go with the Pro router, and if you need more then call to EE CS should sort that out for you. PS5 speed test is nothing to go by, what method of connection are you using for the PS5.

HI,

Yes got one EE Smartwifi extender which ive got next to my PS5 now and hardwired into the port on the back. However i had it upstairs and the wifi has dropped in the loft now.

I had the EE SMART HUB PLUS WIFI 6 beforehand and the WiFi was stronger.

@Cambb69 Kind of hard to work out, where is the router in relation to the smart wifi positional in the home, as to strength of signal no one has yet reported on how good the devices are, apart from the smart wireless appears to interfere with the router so one user turned it off, does not help your scenario and always PS5 gaming is better wired to the main router, but that is not always possible, you are relying on how good the mesh is having it plugged into the extender smart wireless device.

This is an older thread so not sure if you’ve still got issues but I managed to resolve these myself having similar problems. Basically I had to set the router to not broadcast 2.4Ghz and this stopped my internet issues entirely. The only issue this causes is that some older devices and many smart home devices can only run on that band. To fix this I bought a cheap £20 router off amazon that I hardwired into my smart hub pro that broadcasts on this wave only and changed the WiFi name to be a specific network to only connect my smart home devices to. This still means they show up as on my network but they connect to a different WiFi network name. I have since also used the smart WiFi pro as a separate router to hardwire my PS5 into as it takes the WiFi 7 from the Pro router which no other device in my house supports anyway so the connection is uninterrupted by other devices. This boosted the WiFi I was getting at around 250mbps to over 500 because I can’t hardwire the PS5 in its current location, this is a workaround. Not sure if this second step works for you but the first solution should hopefully fix any issues you or others might be having.

You needn't have done this. Instead, you could have disabled 2.4GHz on the main WiFi network and enabled the Compatible WIFi feature. Compatible WiFi broadcasts on 2.4GHz only by default and can be configured to use a different WiFi network name.

@bobpullen Your going to have all the MLO freaks up in arms with juggling and switching of main bands and favouring comp against the other, on the WPA3 or -T, and WPA2 minefield! What's going to happen someone is going to use the same ssid name for both setup wpa2 on the comp and who knows where that's going to go even if the hub allows it which would be surprised if it did not!

@bobpullen except this is what I tried first and still had the same issues - what appeared to be happening from my side was that the router itself had issues broadcasting both channels. There were quite noticeable and frequent drops in latency that perhaps are not as noticeable outside of gaming but made online games unplayable the majority of the time. And of course @JimM11 makes another great point on the various security protocols and incompatibility with certain devices. Since doing this I’ve had zero issues across the board and can isolate points of failure more easily if anything does cease to work

You cannot give the Compatible WiFi SSID the same name as the main WiFi network as far as I can tell.

I tried the new wi-fi 7 router and found wi-fi speeds much slower and less coverage than my Asus router so have gone back to the Asus for now.If you have a few wi-fi 7 devices go for it..if not then prepare to be disappointed.
