We can we expect DDNS back on the EE smarthub

Recently migrated over from BT to EE, which was a nightmare, and to try and resolve various issues with the migration we received a new EE Smart hub to replace the BT Smarthub2.

All fine, except I've discovered there's no DDNS option in the new EE hub, which is completely absurd.

Amongst other things it now means our home security cameras can't be accessed remotely if there's a change to the routers IP.

And it now means we have to leave a laptop running constantly with a DDNS client.

Has anyone heard when, or even if, it's coming back?

Same problem here. We now have a redundant CCTV system!

Noip & DDNS worked fine on the BT router, now we can’t set it up on the EE kit!

Before being unknowingly palmed off to EE when agreeing a new contract I was told my new service would be the same or better - well it’s certainly not the same and it’s not better.

I was definitely mugged with this offering, something I’m not going to forget.

We have been with BT forever because they were always at the end of the line to sort any problems out and we in felt in safe hands. We were unknowingly moved to EE when I renewed my contract. The first I knew about EE was when the router etc arrived and EE emails started to arrive.

Since being with BT/EE have had the same fault several times i.e. phone rings but the caller can’t hear us and we can’t hear them! Also our CCTV system doesn’t work because the EE router doesn’t support DDNS. Just put DDNS into the search bar and it will list lots of people complaining about the same problem.

45 minute wait times seem to be the norm if you call EE, and there’s no callback facility!

Latest Update with last few minutes - I have just received a call to say we are now getting our BT kit back.

@Btgoingforbroke If you still have, then put your BT Equipment back on, it works with the EE Service assuming that you have the BT Smarthub2 for the DV side of things! DDNS is one of those, may be back/may not so no defined answer to give you!

If the EE router will not work for you I would pick up a BT Smart Hub 2 from Ebay, you can get a new one for a few quid and it will solve all your CCTV issues. It is always useful to have a spare router in case of failure as you can be back on line quickly, especially if you make the Network name and Password the same on both routers.

I just recently migrated from BT Fibre to EE using their smart hub Plus Router. I set it up last night looking forward to upgrading my hardware only to discover I couldnt configure my existing Dynamic DNS account like I could with my BT smart HUB 2. This equipment as it stands is utterly useless for my needs as I need to be able to remotely connect to another PC within my home network on a day to day basis for personal reasons. To find that Im unable to add my DYDNS account is a major step backward and for this reason I have stripped out EE smart hub plus and reverted back to my BT HUB 2.

I will be contacting EE Tech support to arrange an uplift of my EE router as utterly useless in its current form and ask they if they can provide any timeframe as to when this will be added in future updates. I do hope they address this issue ASAP and give us more technically minded customers far more flexibility when interacting with other devices within our household.

From a very angry EE customer who has been a happy BT customer for yrs.

Hi Jim - Thats what I had to do last night. However it isnt a solution its a work around. I shouldnt need to downgrade as their Routers should have DDNS as a standard integrated within their admin consoles for those of use when use our home network beyond basic internet use as many of use cctv equipment, servers etc... and having DDNS is a must. @floyd73 You may be correct in your opinion, but it is also rumoured that it is getting removed also on the BT routers.

Thanks Jim. I didnt know there where different EE Routers (to confuse matters). So its the Smart HUB Pro that I need. Would I need to contact Tech support to get this as opposed to smart HUB Plus Router they have provided me with. Thanks

@floyd73 The new router is given with both the top 2 tier packages, this is automatic, with select Full Fiber it is classed as an additional addon, this is unfortunate but comes at a cost of £10 per month, it is a real bargain at that price for a wifi7 class router with 1 to 3 smart wifi7 boosters, but each has to make there own decision regarding that fact. Are you currently on a FTTP service or still FTTC?

Im sure its FTTP as had to get openreach involved in digging within street path and into neighbours garden to add fibre junction box to side of house then feed into upstairs living room.

@floyd73 FTTP cable goes to what is called the ONT modem, has 4 led's on it, Ethernet cable from that to your router, then you have fttp for sure.

@floyd73 As you require the functionality of the DDNS service, and not sure if it is working or not with the new router, try twisting EE arm to see if you can get one, foc!

Is this PC permanently powered on? If it is, then it's probably fairly trivial to run a lightweight software client on the machine to update your Dynamic DNS service. If you let me know what DynDNS service you're using then I might be able to offer some suggestions.

Just found this post as I have migrated from BT to EE, and they supplied me a EE Smart Hub Plus and this is missing the DDNS option so I cannot remotely connect to my NAS any longer, as well as the ability to export & import router config settings.

As one of the previous post links to another community page it seems there is a newer EE Smart Hub Pro router which does have DDNS, so I'll give them a call soon and see if they can send me the upgraded Pro version router instead.

@Speedy_636 The DDNS option is not missing, it just does not have it, removed from operation, you can just put the BT router back in operation, would be surprised if you were to get the Pro router as a replacement for the PLUS, and not even sure many would be using DDNS on it anyway. Import export not even sure if it is an option on the Pro also, sure isn't on the +.

Best of luck my friend. As I got no where with them when calling their customer support. I cant even remember the excuses they gave me at the time. Absolute joke that this feature is missing from their routers. Im still using my Smart HUB 2 from BT to get around issue.
