Morning Everyone,

After waiting for any news, I saw that the new WiFi 7 is being advertised and the Smart Home Pro is available.

So I’ve signed up for the 1.6Gb package which includes the WiFi 7 Router.

I will update this post once I receive everything and I’ll do a full review.

I get the new iPhone 16 Pro Max this Friday on launch which is WiFi 7 so I’ll be able to test out the new WiFi capabilities and then I’ll do a wired test to my gaming PC.

Estimated Date for equipment = 28 September 2024

Date for Installation - 2nd October 2024 - 8am to 1pm.

Although I don’t need an engineer as I have everything in place from my previous internet so will see if I can just plug in myself 😄

WiFi 7 is a deal changer have tested several WiFi 7 routers over the last few weeks and the performance is incredible especially when using MLO obviously you have to have WiFi 7 device to use WiFi 7

I called ee this morning to see if I could upgrade to WiFi 7 on my existing plan and currently there no option to do so for existing customers, was told it may be a few days so will have to keep checking will be interesting to see what performance you get

Call again, if you see my separate post first guide initially said not available and I can buy the smart wifi plus for £7. Called back and spoke to another guide, who spoke to an team and then ordered the Smart Hub Pro kit for £10 extra per month; delivery is Thursday (19/09).

Currently on 900mbps essentials with no extras, before this. Interestingly, my new pre contract information email also says my broadband contract “after this” [change] is 30 days (no other durations / minimums mentioned) and the new Smart WiFi addon is also monthly rolling and not 24 months (as indicated for new customers online).

** edit: I think maybe if your switching kit on 1.6gbps tiers they don’t quite have the process in place yet on what to do, but to add it on for under 1.6gbps is definitely possible **

Thanks, called back first person couldn’t help me, eventually got through to someone and currently I can’t add Wifi 7 as I have WiFi plus add on which needs to be removed but takes a month for order to close and they can’t raise a new order till it’s closed so looks like I’ll be waiting a while

ahh nightmare, so you need the 30 days to cancel down the old addon at £7 and then to order the new one at £10?

Deffo worth it for £3 extra though (hopefully 🤞🏻)

Yes it’s looking that way i pay £10 extra a month for WiFi plus but everything you try and do with EE is tiresome and painful and you never seem to get anywhere. It been like that since full fibre was installed previously I’ve never had an issue with them. But as they have placed the order to remove WiFi plus may just go and buy my own WiFi 7 router as I think it will be less hassle

It is interesting that EE are offering the WiFi 7 hub/extender as a package at £10 extra a month, it's just a shame that the UI is pretty basic and if it's anything like the SH2 or SH+ then I'll pass.
I've just purchased a TP LINK AXE5400 Router and it's improved my coverage by about 50% whilst offering me the ability to add another device to my network to form a mesh network if required.

Granted this has got the latest tech available, along with being a Tri-Band router, which will be great if you cannot have a wired back haul set up, but it's just going to be a while to take full advantage of WiFi 7 unless you buy the latest tech all the time. The WiFi 6Ghz band isn't great unless you have no obstacles and are within about 20 feet of the router.

Still it's great to see EE being one of the first ISP's to offer WiFi 7.

Yeah some are insanely priced, TP link do a dual band one for about £120 but not great performance, but there others under £700 but not many

I think as long as it performs as it should (based on paper spec), then £240 for 24 months is a steal for this level of tech, from an ISP supplied router! They can have £480 for 4 years for all I care, then we’ll have next gen tech again and it’ll still be worth it and cheaper than buying a dual wifi 7 kit out of the box now for the same period - that’s what makes this quite exciting.

The pro kit is going to show up other ISPs at higher speeds big time - it will change the market and force others to innovate their CSP included kit. Sky / talktalk must be quite worried right now about how they respond to the shift to avoid being left behind. The marketing about wifi 7 will be loud. I’m not sure how sky / talktalk can match it, I mean TT can’t start sending out Eero 7s at their price point. Sky has to consider the rest of their ecosystem (TV kit). Of course they will come up with something, but it’s how and when; or do they target price over performance and not worry?

I’m actually swapping from TalkTalk - I chose them 18 months ago because they were one of the only ones offering WiFi 6E.

But I agree - £70 a month for 1.6Gb with about £800-£1200 worth of kit at today’s prices is very good imo !

It says 115mbps upload speed on 1.6 gb package, my Virgin Media 1gb package gives me around 118 mbps upload speed, knowing that it’s new wifi 7 router it should give more!

@iammbuk I could be wrong but I'm sure WiFi 6E and WiFi 7 routers will be minimum tri-band, as they will support bands 2.4Ghz, 5Ghz and 6Ghz.

@ChicChoco Agreed, £240 for 24 months is worth it for the kit EE are offering. I'll reserve my judgement though until I see the reviews about the kit and to see if they run off the same EE app, which is flaky at best!

If symmetrical in the future then who knows.

Wi-Fi 7 has nothing to do with both with regard to speed control!
