Thanks for the reply, that's what I was lead to believe would happen but when it actually came down to it I was told that's not the case, I had to honour this new contract and would continute to pay the same amount. I'm exhausted trying to understand it, ended up thanking the adviser on the phone and just cancelling everything we were doing, didn't even get around to sorting out my mobile.

Hey folks,

I'll try to keep the storytelling brief; I found out earlier this year that I had 8 weeks to move house which, frankly, wrecked me. I updated EE and called BT to move my service, which they said they can do, no bother, but I'd have to start a new contract with them - mentally exhausted and needing to be able to work I agreed, was told this was the only way they could do it. Wouldn't be ready for the move in but they sent me an EE wifi gadget so I could connect - this was when I learned EE & BT were working together.

I struggled to meet bills and was a bit late paying for a couple of months but I did pay, and called up every time to keep BT posted on my situation and, to their credit, they were really good about stalling for a few days - each time I lamented that I was paying £50+ for my broadband and £60 for my mobile every month, now that I know it's the same company, but it wasn't until July that an adviser mentioned that I should combine the two accounts and move my BT over to my EE account, which sounded great as the EE broadband deals would save me a packet - just have to get to October when my EE contract runs down, I can sort it all out then - hung up and went away feeling like a weight had been lifted, as long as I could make it to October.

October's here, I called up and settled my BT bill, was put through to someone who told me no, I can't do it today, because I've only cleared my bill today. Wait a day or two... Called back a few days later and was all set to make this switch, move my EE to Sim only and bring in my broadband and finally get what feels like a fair deal for the service I get.

Adviser explained that, since I had signed a new contract in April, I'd have to remain on that same tarrif even when I move to EE or pay off the remainder - even though the package that suits me on EE is significantly cheaper with EE, I was going to have to continue paying the BT rate for the duration of the contract, so this was all for the benefit of BT/EE and I'd actually get no benefit whatsoever, just the rigmarole of this phone call.

If I had been told in April that this was an option then I'd have jumped on it but nobody did that I recall - on purpose? No idea, I mentioned to them a few times how much I didn't understand, how mentally I was wrecked but however it works out, I'm now stuck paying more than £50 per month for broadband, while a new customer will be paying probably half that.

I've been with BT since I was old enough to have a home phone of my own, about 30 years. I've been with EE since they were T-Mobile - I've stuck with both even when better offers were available, half expecting to get at least some respect for being a loyal customer but apparently no, I'm a cash cow now. I can't afford this. I can move my EE to Sim only, that'll save a few quid but right now I feel like an absolute mug, being mugged off every single time I have to pay this bill.

I figured I'd raise it here as I want to be an EE customer, never done me wrong, so I figure it's easier to start asking here if there's any options for me, other than be fleeced continually?

Cheers for any suggestions, I feel like an idiot.

Usually when BT move your BB to EE they cancel your BT contract w/out paying any exit fees.
