topic So, just signed up with EE, have I made a mistake? in Broadband & Landline

Literally just installed my EE router after migrating from BT and already I have some problems.

1) I also have 2 mobile phones transferred from BT and I was promised to keep the numbers, but the sim card packets have just default numbers on them so as yet I have not installed them, when being sold this package nothing was mentioned about transferring the numbers?

2) I have 2 desktop PC's running side by side, one is hard wired with ethernet cable and the other connects via wi-fi.
before I changed the hub I did several speed checks, both were similar and around 500Mb/s
Since I swapped over, the hard wired is 700-900 Mb/s whilst the wifi pc is only getting around 100Mb/s and it is only 2 metres from the router so I have no idea what is going on there. I have ordered a longer ethernet cable but something odd going on?

Of course I can't actually get to speak to anyone about this at EE and so many irrelevant menu options on the phone all with between 30 - 45 minute queue's I am thinking of cancelling whilst within my 14 days.

@Rid1ey your number has be migrated to the new SIM card if, it was pre-installed on the SIM card then you would’ve been cut off until you got the sim. You can not have one phone number on two sims at the same time.

As for your router speed issue obviously you are getting the correct speed on the other wired PC, How’s the speed on a phone/tablet? Trying to find the issue helps if you know it’s on a different device also,

Hi Chris
I have not installed the sim, still using the BT one.
I also have a laptop which is getting reasonable speeds its just the wifi desktop, and whilst I realise the fault may not be an EE issue, it does seem odd that it is only since swapping hubs

Hi @Rid1ey

Which broadband package and router do you have from EE.

Have you checked your WiFi pc isn't connecting at just 2.4 WiFi channels.

Thanks

Hi Northener, you are on to something there, I just checked speed again and it was at 650Mb/s, then turned wifi on and off again and it was back to 100Mb/s, checked network band and it was 2.4Ghz, turned wifi off and on again and it was at 5.0Ghz and speed back up, any idea how I keep it at 5.0 Ghz or whatever?

Hi Northener
That seems to have sorted it, it was changing to 2.4GHz and I swapped to 5Ghz 802. 11a and now it stays at 5.0Ghz and the speed stays as it should.
So thank you for your input.

@Rid1ey Locking on to the band, is completely down to the device, IT makes the decision were it is going, you can sometimes set the wi-fi nic devices settings to say 5Ghz band only, but it is never/never guaranteed that it will do as you expect. Just so you know. And welcome to the forum and hopefully no more drama for you! 👍 YOU have 60 day's before any BT returns, so please/please keep your old BT equipment until you are HAPPY....
