@JRS15 The router and the devices are all intelligent, do you have the same SSID for the 2.4ghz and 5ghz bands just like the EE router was setup.

When they use the same, both use band steering, this directs the device towards what is required. Now the 2.4ghz band is stronger distance wise, travels little further and little less trouble going through walls/floors etc, but slower in speed.

The 5ghz band is more high speed, but struggles to get its signal through walls/floors etc, so tapers of very quickly, hence shorter distance and you have to be nearer the router to get the higher speeds.

Any device, that is rated for 5ghz operation, can/will switch back and forth between the two bands when/if it can but only if the router is using the same SSID for both. If it is struggling to do so then compatibility between devices is nearly always the problem.

If you have different SSID for each band then there is NO such band steering.

Sky Q only works with SKY routers, because of a very specific mesh system, you need to go READ about this and set up your Q and mini boxes correctly. Until you do that then you have no hope of getting anything working correctly. The normal and best advice is to hardwire Q and mini, but only YOU can make that decision, or possibly use powerline for each but again, your location.

Here to help and guide, but not fix your system.

Having wrestles with the EE provided router for months I’ve decided to connect a third party router.

I have a TP-link AX5400 (Archer73) and i’m connecting it to the Nokia ONT-010-G-T that came with the EE router. I’m connecting my WAN port on the TP-Link (coloured blue) to the yellow 2.4Ghz port on the ONT modem.

I’ve set the TP-Link to PPOE and put in my details name@emailaddress.com. I’ve tried both adding the password and leaving it blank, neither connects.

Is there something I am missing? Is this set up viable or do I need a different modem or ??

Hi,

Yes I can see those options through both the Tether app and connecting using the http://192.168.0.1 methods. The latter doesn’t have any other selections unless i choose IPv6, then it gets overly complicated.

I’m using my username and login details copied directly from the EE hub (which does connect) but the TP link just won’t.

I asked EE for login details and they sent me the same info you shared. I even tried the verbatim btinternet as printed, obv no joy

I’m stumped

Sent from my iPhone
